North Country
North Country is a cocktail bar with a reputation for standing out in Chiang Mai's nightlife scene. Situated on the second floor of 23 Tha Phae Road, the venue is something of a hidden gem — the entrance can be tricky to locate, which only adds to the sense of discovery once inside. The interior makes a strong first impression, with atmospheric lighting, considered use of materials, and a moody, intimate feel that sets it apart from more generic bar offerings in the area. The cocktails are the main draw, with visitors consistently praising their complexity and the care that goes into their preparation. The bar staff are noted for being attentive and friendly, contributing to an unhurried, mellow atmosphere that suits both solo drinkers and small groups. The venue draws a mix of locals and travellers, and the relaxed vibe reflects Chiang Mai's broader social character rather than the louder energy found in more tourist-heavy spots. Good to know: The entrance is not immediately obvious from the street, so allow a moment to find it — look for access to the second floor along Tha Phae Road. Opening hours are not listed online, so it is worth checking ahead if you are planning to visit early in the evening. The bar's central location makes it straightforward to reach on foot or by tuk-tuk from most accommodation in the Old City area.

Visitor Reviews
A beautifully moody interior with an exceptional use of materials and atmospheric lighting sets the tone immediately. The cocktails are crafted with so much care, I’ve visited twice now, and both times they were made with the same level of attention and love, resulting in truly outstanding drinks. The staff are incredibly attentive, offering thoughtful explanations while genuinely checking in to make sure everything is to your liking. Without a doubt, my favorite cocktail bar in Chiang Mai.
Beautiful!!! It’s so good, one of the most surprised bar I’ve been visit in Chiangmai! Love Mr.Kong very much and surprisingly heard from other bartenders that he has a bar in Chiangmai. Vibe is decent & iconic as always and drinks are good as well. Will recommend to more friends about it!

Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
