Makad Rooftop
Perched above the Warorot Market area on Kaeonawarat Road, Makad Rooftop draws both locals and travellers with its open-air terrace, city views, and unhurried atmosphere. The elevated setting makes it a natural spot to catch the sunset over Chiang Mai, with visitors frequently noting the cool breeze and relaxed vibe that sets in as the evening arrives. Beyond drinks, the venue also operates as a cafe and serves food, giving it a more versatile appeal than a typical rooftop bar. The atmosphere leans casual and social, with a mix of guests that keeps things lively without feeling overly touristy. Reviewers highlight the good value on drinks, the welcoming owner, and the easy sense of community that builds around the shared rooftop space. The neighbourhood setting in the Warorot Market district adds an authentic local character that differs from the more polished bars found closer to Chiang Mai's Old City. Good to know: The rooftop is accessed via a few flights of stairs, which most visitors manage comfortably, though those with limited mobility should take it steady. Opening hours are not listed online, so it is worth checking locally before making a dedicated trip. Sunset is a popular time to visit, so arriving a little early is a reasonable idea if you want to secure a good spot.

Visitor Reviews
We visited Makad Rooftop to watch the sunset 🌅 There are a few flights of stairs to reach the top, but my mum—who has mobility issues—was able to take them slowly. We ordered our food and drinks downstairs before heading up. The outdoor area was lovely, with plenty of space and a mix of tables, chairs, and comfy sofas to relax on. The food was fine—just what you’d expect for some light, picky bits—and the atmosphere was great. We really enjoyed watching the sunset, even if a big block of flats was right in the way 😂
This hostel is so amazing I really love the rooftop area the best. The vibes are so comfy and at night you can see the starts for perfectly. And then if you go out on a night out coming back to watch the sunrise is a bookmark worthy moment for your travel stories ☀️ also get a soju bucket from the bar ❤️ also the location of this hostel is in the perfect area for the old town of chiang mai to walk around and explore the town.
This cafe offers a truly magical atmosphere. The beautiful rooftop provides an exceptional view, and the weather here is just perfectly cool and breezy. It’s the ideal escape for a relaxed, intimate conversation with your significant other. The soulful background music makes everything feel fresh and utterly delightful. A breath of fresh air!

Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
