The Golden Giraffe
Tucked along Sukhumvit Soi 11 in Bangkok's Watthana district, this bar has built a strong reputation as one of the city's go-to venues for live music. The acts span an impressive range of genres — from classic rock and blues to jazz and Grateful Dead covers — and musicians are frequently noted for their calibre and evident passion for performing. The ownership and staff are hands-on and welcoming, contributing to an atmosphere that feels genuinely cosy rather than corporate. Beyond the music, the venue also offers snooker tables, making it a worthwhile stop even on quieter nights without a live act. The crowd tends to be a relaxed mix of expats, tourists, and locals, and the setting suits everything from a casual catch-up to a full night out on the Sukhumvit strip. The soi itself is well-connected and surrounded by dining and bar options, so it fits naturally into a broader evening itinerary. Good to know: Check what nights live music is scheduled before visiting, as the experience differs significantly with or without a band. A small number of visitors have flagged billing discrepancies, so it is worth reviewing your bill carefully before paying. Arriving before the main act starts typically means easier access to seating in what is a compact and popular space.

Visitor Reviews
Came for the live music, stayed for the people. Really lovely, cosey venue with staff and owners that care about their job. The amazing band on Saturday night did a wonderful job and clearly love to play, having fun all night. Drummer in particular was a delight. Friendly owners were on premises and happily mimgled/chatted with customers. The staff look after customers and each other and all in all it creates a nice atmosphere that stands out as exceptional and relaxed, especially in the nana area. Come early, and you'll find there's no live music, but great prices on drinks (and free pool). After the live music starts it gets busier and louder, and is still a lot of fun. Very glad to have spent a Saturday night there. Will return next time im in Bangkok for absolute certain. If you enjoy live rock and blues, this is a must try venue.
The one place that is a must visit when in Bangkok. I love their music and vibe and the bands here are the best in town. Staff and ownership really do work at making the place welcoming and cozy. The music is mostly blues, which I love, and the bands show they really care about the music. Wide variety of drinks (whisky sour is the best I’ve ever tasted). They also cater to events and there is a great New Orleans style balcony and hidden bar on the third floor. All in all, a great place.
Greatest place for live music in Bangkok. Always great musicians who have played with bands you’ve heard of. From classic rock to blues to jazz to Grateful Dead and The Beatles. The owner, a former New Yorker, John Medina, snd his smart and lovely wife are great hosts who have it dialed in. The guests are as interesting as the staff. 5 stars. I never leave reviews but this one is a must. Just off Soi 11. Go
Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
