Sailomjoy street market
Tucked into the Chang Khlan Sub-district of central Chiang Mai, this compact neighbourhood market draws a loyal crowd of locals and in-the-know visitors twice a week. It stands out as one of the few proper street markets in the immediate area, offering fresh produce, fruits, vegetables, and a solid spread of prepared Thai foods at affordable prices. The atmosphere is low-key and friendly, reflecting everyday Chiang Mai life rather than a tourist-oriented experience. Food is clearly the main draw here, with cooked Thai dishes and local snacks making up much of what vendors offer. Shoppers can also browse a general mix of goods across the stalls. The market follows a circular layout, so most visitors will naturally walk the full loop before deciding what to pick up. It is worth noting that vegetarian options are limited, so those with dietary restrictions may find the selection narrow. Good to know: Sailomjoy operates exclusively on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM — outside of those windows, there is nothing to see. Arriving in the earlier part of the evening gives the best selection and a slightly more relaxed crowd. Bring cash, as card payments are unlikely to be accepted at most stalls.

Visitor Reviews
If you are looking for the affordable barber around around Charoen Phratet and you happen to do shopping at this market, this brand-new spot is for you. It costs 130 THB for haircut. I love this place and the service. Will always have my hair cut here for sure:). Note: the barber guy does not really speak English, yet if you can show what style you want with a picture or something, that will help a lot:).
Great local produce and prepared food. Small and friendly - only Tuesday and Thursday. Just became my favorite shopping spot in Chiang Mai.
It's literally the only proper market in this area with nice food. Downside: You have to walk a whole circle, there's almost no vegetarian options, and it's only open 2 days a week.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
