Kathu Waterfall
Tucked into the forested hills of Kathu district, this tiered waterfall offers a genuine escape from Phuket's coastal crowds. Multiple natural pools are connected by a staircase, with the largest pool at the lowest level and smaller pools rewarding those who climb higher. The surrounding jungle is the real draw — dense tree cover, fresh air, and the sound of running water create a quietly meditative atmosphere that keeps both long-term residents and curious visitors returning. Local children swim here, and the site sees relatively few tourists, giving it an unhurried, unmanicured quality that regulars describe as one of its greatest strengths. The waterfall itself is modest in scale, but the sense of discovery more than compensates. Paths can be slippery, so sturdy, water-friendly footwear is strongly recommended. There is no entrance fee and no ticketing system, and the site has a relaxed, informal character throughout. Practically speaking, water flow drops considerably in the dry season — visitors in February have noted very little water — so the rainy season (May to October) or the months immediately after offer the most rewarding conditions. From Patong, the location is around 15 minutes by motorbike or reachable by taxi. No official opening hours are listed, so daylight visits are advised. Insect repellent is worth bringing given the jungle surroundings.

Visitor Reviews
So good not busy at all hardly any tourist.. I found this place myself on Google maps. Just searching waterfalls & what's local to patong beach.. 15mins motorbike ride or take a taxi. Worth the visit. Water to go in.. don't just hit the bottom cross the water an go up the waterfall it self I walked up.. Keep ya eyes out for the golden weaver spiders up in the webs on trees. Loads of butterfly's🦋 creatures keep eyes out.. (advice bug spray) enjoy your time 🇹🇭✔️
As foreign residents, every year I have to visit it several times. This place can make you peace, listening the water sound, thinking nothing. The air is fresh and sweet, some local children swim here, also have some managers in there, so it is a clean and lovely place. If you are a nature lover, you can spend a morning or 2-3 hours here.
In my opinion this is one of the hidden gems of Phuket, the place indeed seems to be a bit abandoned but it only adds up to the atmosphere. Make sure to come all the way up the stairs (there's a lot of them) and take a short walk through the jungle.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
