Black Rock Viewpoint
Tucked away in the Karon area of southern Phuket, this off-the-beaten-path viewpoint rewards those willing to navigate an unpaved access road with genuinely expansive panoramic views across the island's southern coastline. From the elevated rocky terrain, visitors can take in sweeping vistas that include Nai Harn Beach, the surrounding green hills, and stretches of open blue water — a perspective of Phuket that most visitors never see. The setting is quiet and unhurried, drawing photographers, nature enthusiasts, and travellers looking for a genuine escape from the island's busier spots. The experience centres entirely on the views and the natural landscape rather than any facilities or organised activities. The rocky outcrops that define the site give it texture and character, and the open elevation means conditions change noticeably throughout the day. Visitor numbers tend to stay low, making it possible to have the viewpoint largely to oneself, particularly outside of peak sunset hours. Good to know: The access road involves rough, unpaved terrain, so a vehicle with reasonable clearance is recommended and sturdy footwear is advisable once on site. Sunset is a particularly popular time to visit, when the sky turns golden over the water, though early morning visits offer cooler temperatures and good light. There are no listed amenities at the location, so bring water, especially during the warmer midday hours. The site is accessible around the clock, giving visitors flexibility to time their arrival to suit conditions or personal preference. The dry season, running roughly from November through February, typically offers the clearest visibility.

Visitor Reviews
Black rock viewpoint is a lesser visited but a beautiful lookout of the south of Phuket. The road to reach here is an off roading from the road that reaches prompthep cape. At the entrance of this unpaved road there are many ATVs which you can take to reach here or you can ride a bike if you’re skilled to handle, riding a 4x4 is even more fun here. Google maps guides you the correct path but since it’s less visited there would be no other vehicles parked, trust the path shown by maps. If you take your vehicle all the way up, it’s just 7-10 minutes small hike up to the rock. The hike is covered by greenery all the way till the rock. Morning/afternoon might be very sunny but sunsets are beautiful from here. You can spot salamanders and snakes on the way up. There’s a Thailand flag flying on the rock. A panaromic view overlooking the Andaman sea and you can see the turquoise waters near the beaches down below.
This is truly one of Phuket's best-kept secret viewpoints. t’s an unforgettable, off-the-beaten-path experience that rewards you with an absolutely breathtaking panoramic vista of Southern Phuket. From the top, you get sweeping views over the beachs and the surrounding islands. The serenity up here is unmatched, feeling worlds away from the busy beaches below. Getting here is an adventure. The road leading to the trail entrance is rough and the final hike is a short but steep 10-15 minute climb through the jungle. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water! Go for sunrise or sunset. The light is magical for photography, and the cooler temperature makes the steep climb much easier. Highly, highly recommend if you love adventure and incredible scenery!
Black Rock Viewpoint is easily one of the best spots in Phuket to watch the sunset. The view is incredible — endless blue water, green hills, and a sky that turns golden in the evening. It’s so peaceful up there; all you hear are the waves far below and the wind through the trees. You can’t drive a sedan car up — the road is steep and rough, so you’ll need a 4WD, SUV, or ATV. There are taxis that take you up and back for about 200 THB per person. Totally worth it for the view and the calm, quiet atmosphere.
