Khao Mai Keao Reservation Park
Tucked into Bang Lamung District just outside Pattaya, this reservation park offers a genuine escape into preserved jungle for those looking to trade the city's busier attractions for forest trails and open air. A network of crisscrossing tracks winds through the terrain, catering to hikers and mountain bikers of varying abilities, while a reservoir area provides quieter spots for picnics and rest. The park also hosts organised trail running events across distances of 3, 11, 25, and 50 kilometres, drawing a community of outdoor enthusiasts from the wider region. The atmosphere is unhurried and nature-focused, with dense jungle canopy, notable inclines, and enough trail variety to keep visitors exploring for several hours. Facilities are basic, in keeping with a working nature reserve rather than a developed tourist attraction, so the environment itself is the primary draw. Wildlife visibility and cooler temperatures make early morning the most rewarding time to arrive. Good to know: The park opens daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with weekday visits typically offering a quieter experience than weekends. Trails can be easy to get turned around on given how frequently they intersect, so a degree of navigation awareness is useful. Sturdy footwear, sun protection, and sufficient water are strongly recommended, as on-site amenities are limited. There is no official website, so arriving with straightforward expectations about facilities is advisable.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
