Na Muang 2 Waterfall
Tucked into the forested hills of Koh Samui's interior, Na Muang 2 Waterfall draws visitors away from the island's beaches and into its quieter, greener heart. The waterfall sits at the end of a roughly 40-minute uphill hike, and the reward at the top is a dramatic cascade with natural pools suitable for swimming. It is one of the island's more physically engaging natural attractions, appealing to travellers who want something beyond the coastline. The approach to the waterfall involves a steep incline, and navigating to the correct trailhead requires some attention. Visitors should not park at the first car park near the sanctuary; instead, continuing right along the road leads to the waterfall base, where toilets and a small cafe are available. From there, crossing the wooden bridge marks the start of the correct hiking trail. The terrain is uneven and can be slippery near the water, so sturdy, closed-toe footwear is strongly recommended. Those planning to swim should bring a towel and a change of clothes. The waterfall is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Arriving early in the morning offers a more peaceful experience with fewer crowds and better conditions for photography. Water volume varies with the seasons, and the falls are at their most impressive during and after the rainy season. The site is accessible by scooter or ride-hailing services such as Grab from areas including Lamai.

Visitor Reviews
For the amazing view and swimming in the waterfall pond: Turn left at end of the road. If you start hiking by crossing the wooden bridge (see pictures) you are right! The Full Guide: Do NOT park at the elephant sanctuary. Even though there are huge signs for “na muang 2 waterfall parking”. You just pass the parking lot, turn right and follow the street. If you do park there you just have to walk on the road which is uphill, without view and time consuming. It’s not steep, 125cc with 2 people is easy. There will be free parking afterwards (as of Jan2026) At the end of the road are two main properties, both of which have free motorcycle parking: - (Turn Right - Colored Waterslides, no swimming at the top) If you turn right there is a nice little cafe and “tropical garden” which leads into a physical demanding hiking path. If you have sturdy shoes and are careful it’s doable but demanding. In my opinion the waterfall views from there are not that great (see the pictures). The famous rotten colored waterslides are here. - (Turn Left - swimming in waterfall pond) If you turn left (100m downhill) there is a little shop and a sign “Free Jungle Walk”. Take this way, hike across the wooden bridge and follow the path. If you wear shoes it’s a demanding ~15 minute hike one way. the views on the top are amazing (see the pictures). The famous waterfall pond for swimming is here. Be careful, the current can be strong and the rocks slippery. Everything is free but maybe buy some drinks on the way back as a thank you. I would say the right path is not worth hiking, but you can get a nice picture at the start. The top of the left path is breath taking and definitely worth sweating for. Look at the pictures and decide yourself.
The hike up the waterfall takes about 40 minutes, but the view is definitely worth the effort. Some tourist tips: 🔅Better to arrive early in the morning to enjoy the view peacefully and take photos. We got there by 9 a.m. —there were only a couple of people at the top and a dog😁 By 10.30 a.m. it was already crowded, and the vibe wasn’t the same anymore 🔅Bring water with you (you can buy it at the start of the trail) and insect repellent (!!) —we got literally hundreds of mosquito bites along the way 🔅 Wear sneakers and casual clothing, as at some point the trail ends and you need to climb over rocks We came by scooter, free parking
THIS IS A MUST!! We got a grab from Lamai to the sanctuary and walked up to the fork in the road where you could go left or right & we opted for left and it was so worth it, if your somewhat active & adventurous your gonna wanna go left you enter though a little cafe past a lady & her dogs. Go across the cutest bridge surrounded by waterfalls/pools. When climbing up there ropes to hold onto highly recommend going one at a time, the ropes were in good condition. The views up here are so worth it & we went for the most amazing swim with the views! 100/10 defo recommend! X

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
