HM Lanta War Ship Museum
Housed aboard a decommissioned Thai naval warship moored in central Krabi, this free museum surprises most visitors with the breadth of what it contains. Beyond the ship itself, the exhibits span natural history, ethnography, archaeology, and the broader history of Krabi province, along with a 4D film experience. It is a genuinely distinctive attraction that stands apart from the beach and temple circuit, and draws a steady flow of local school groups alongside international visitors. The atmosphere is calm and exploratory, with guided tours leading visitors through the ship's compartments and onboard displays. Navigating the vessel involves stairs and narrow passages, so comfortable footwear is recommended. The combination of maritime heritage and regional history makes it particularly worthwhile for curious travellers willing to look beyond the obvious. Good to know: The museum opens Tuesday through Friday, 09:00–15:00, and admission is free. Tours are guided and run to a set schedule, meaning individual visitors may be asked to wait if a school group has the vessel booked. One visitor arrived to find entry delayed until 14:30 for this reason, so it is worth calling or checking ahead before making the trip. Allow at least one to two hours for a full visit. The museum is walkable from Krabi town centre, making it an easy addition to a day spent exploring the province's cultural sites.

Visitor Reviews
This museum is quite popular, often with local school groups visiting. Individual visitors are not accepted during these times! There are set visiting times and durations! Tours must be guided, and no English is available (at least my guide didn't speak English, but he did his best to communicate using a mobile translation app). The tour lasts about an hour, including the 4D film, the deck, and the command room. Tour Times: 9:00、10:00、11:00、13:00、14:00、15:00 Admission is free, including the 4D film. If you encounter a student group, you'll have to wait for the next session, so it's best to arrive early or call ahead to inquire about sessions without student groups. I'll write a separate note with detailed information and photos about the battleship and museum. If you're interested, please visit my homepage. 🎬2025.8.20
A brilliant museum. All within the ship, there is a 4d film and information about the history of Krabi and surrounding areas. Considering admission is free, we were very pleasantly surprised by the experience! The guide apologized for not speaking English, however that really is not needed as there are translations throughout - he was very kind!
I assumed that was a navy museum, yet it's so much more than that! Besides ship's naval history, it is in fact natural history, ethnography, archaeology and history museum if the province of Krabi in whole. So much to see, so much to learn there!

Dress Modestly
Cover shoulders and knees at all temples. Carry a light scarf or sarong — some temples lend wraps, but not all. Shoes come off before entering any building with a Buddha image.
Mind Your Feet
Never point your feet at a Buddha image or a monk — it's considered deeply disrespectful. When sitting inside a temple, tuck your feet behind you or to the side.
Ask Before Photographing
Exterior photos are almost always fine, but some interior halls prohibit photography. Look for signs, and never pose irreverently with Buddha images — it's a legal offense in Thailand.
