Dear Friends, Bistro
Part of the Valley Collective concept, this bistro on Jetyod Road offers a calm, upmarket alternative to Chiang Rai's busier dining options. The setting is notably quiet and well-appointed, drawing visitors who want a comfortable sit-down meal away from the street food circuit. The menu bridges Western and Thai influences, with standout items including sourdough sandwiches, vegan pesto pasta, and specialty drinks such as rose raspberry soda and Belgian chocolate beverages. The kitchen also attempts European classics like tiramisu and soufflé, though reviews on these dishes are mixed, so expectations are worth calibrating accordingly. The atmosphere is relaxed and suitable for a leisurely lunch or evening meal, with reliable air-conditioning making it a welcome retreat during warmer months. Service is generally considered friendly, and the space works equally well for solo travellers, couples, or small groups. Portion sizes on some dishes have been noted as modest relative to price, which is worth keeping in mind when ordering. Good to know: Dear Friends Bistro is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM, with Wednesday being the only closed day each week. It suits both lunch and dinner visits without requiring a rushed schedule. Checking the current menu at valley-collective.com/brunch before visiting is advisable, particularly for anyone with dietary preferences or those hoping to confirm availability of specific dishes like the soufflé.

Visitor Reviews
We popped in for some lunch and loved the sandwiches, especially the pesto and cheese sourdough sandwich. The mocha and Belgian chocolate drinks were very tasty too. The staff were nice and the place is very pretty and spacious. There are even some lovely gardens you can sit in. A bit pricey but would say worth it. Would recommend!
Beautiful restaurant with amazing Thai and French delicacies! Make sure to try the rose raspberry soda… It taste like your smelling a beautiful red rose and is delicious and refreshing! 🌹 🫖
Nice place. Upmarket. Quiet. Great air-conditioning. Lovely service. The food was great. My pasta portion was a little small - but it tasted great. I had the vegan pesto pasta but changed gnocchi for linguine instead. Even though it was meant to be vegan, they brought some cheese in a little dish. This seems to be common in Thailand and Laos.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
