Big C Supercenter Chiang Rai 1
The original Big C in Chiang Rai, this large hypermarket holds a central position in the Mueang district and functions as a genuine one-stop destination for both locals and passing travellers. The complex brings together a full supermarket stocking fresh produce, packaged goods, imported products, and travel essentials alongside a collection of in-house tenants including a food plaza, an Amazon Coffee outlet, mobile phone shops, clothing stalls, and several banks. It is a well-established fixture of the city rather than a dedicated dining destination. Visitors should calibrate expectations accordingly. The food plaza offers functional, affordable meals rather than a standout culinary experience, and some areas of the complex show their age, with a number of former tenants now closed. That said, the sheer range of services under one air-conditioned roof makes it genuinely useful, particularly for travellers who are self-catering, stocking up on snacks and water before day trips, or looking for a straightforward, inexpensive meal without venturing far from central Chiang Rai. Good to know: motorbike parking is available outside at no charge and requires no ticket, making it a convenient stop for those exploring the city on two wheels. Arriving mid-morning tends to mean lighter crowds and easier browsing through the various stalls and stores.

Visitor Reviews
Big-C 1 the oldest center, of Chiangrai, very vintage, you have many restaurants, many Banks, Amazon coffee store, smartphone stores, which is a shame compared to before, many stores are closed for reasons , the big Central Plaza shopping center just opposite, but you can find everything you want, fruits and vegetables, all dairy products, lots of stuff, and a very large parking lot
I would like to rate Big C Supercenter Chiang Rai 1 four stars because it is truly one of the most reliable and convenient shopping destinations in the city. Every time I visit, I feel a sense of comfort knowing that I can find almost everything I need under one roof. The store is spacious, well-organized, and always lively with people, which shows how much it is appreciated by the local community as well as visitors. The variety of products is very impressive. From fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, and seafood to household items, electronics, and clothing, Big C offers a wide range of choices. I particularly enjoy browsing through the grocery section because it is clean, well-arranged, and the products are always fresh. The bakery also deserves a special mention because it provides warm and delicious bread and pastries at affordable prices. Another strength of this branch is the friendly service. The staff members are approachable and willing to help when I need directions or product recommendations. Even though the store can get crowded during weekends and holidays, the cashiers and floor staff do their best to make sure everything runs smoothly. Parking is also convenient, with enough space to accommodate cars and motorbikes. Besides shopping, I appreciate the additional facilities available, such as restaurants, small shops, and a food court with a variety of tasty dishes. It makes the experience more enjoyable because I can shop and also enjoy a meal or snack without having to travel far. The only reason I did not give a full five stars is because, during peak hours, the checkout lines can get a bit long. However, this is understandable considering the popularity of the place. Overall, Big C Supercenter Chiang Rai 1 is an excellent shopping destination that I highly recommend to families, students, and anyone who values convenience, variety, and good service.
This is the oldest Big C in Chiang Rai and everything is available there are also restaurants and a food plazza but the food is of mediocre quality and there are many phone shops

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
