Maepen Seafood, Rimping 1 Branch
Maepen Seafood sits on Wang Sing Kam Road in Mueang Chiang Mai, drawing both locals and visitors with a menu centred on fresh seafood at accessible mid-range prices. The riverside setting adds a pleasant backdrop to the meal, and standout dishes from visitors include steamed blue crab with dipping sauce and a creamy tom yum with sea bass — the kind of straightforward Thai seafood cooking that makes it a practical lunch or dinner stop while exploring the city. Expectations are worth calibrating before visiting. The atmosphere is casual and unfussy, with the focus squarely on food rather than décor. Portion sizes have occasionally been noted as smaller than menu photos suggest, and some popular items can sell out during a visit. That said, a number of diners report solid food and attentive service, and the takeaway option works well for those passing through the area. The restaurant opens daily from noon until 11pm, giving flexibility across lunch, dinner, and late evening meals. Arriving earlier in the evening rather than at peak weekend dinner hours may help avoid the busiest periods. As no website is listed, walk-ins appear to be the standard approach. The location near Rimping makes it a convenient pairing with other errands or sightseeing in the area, rather than a standalone dining destination requiring a dedicated trip.

Visitor Reviews
Five stars for the steamed blue crab 🦀 and the dipping sauce 🤤 I also enjoyed the creamy ton yum with sea bass 🫶 The crab cost 465 thb which is just under $15 usd. About the cost of a blue crab hand roll in Los Angeles. The portion could have served two people but I managed to finish it off 🤭 The soup was 295 thb ($9 usd) which translates to about $4.50 per serving. Would recommend this spot if you are nearby!
Fantastic food and great service, we came to pick up takeaway but were early when we visited so had the place to ourselves so decided to stay and dine in a bit also. Very nice view of the river. The seafood is fresh and prepared well, very tasty. Many people go here for the prawns as they are HUGE. Highly recommend, we'll definitely be back again. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for here
The food is good, but the portion sizes don't match the pictures.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
