Lanna Square
Lanna Square is a bustling night market food court on Ratvithi Road, within easy walking distance of Chiang Mai's Old City. Set in a nightlife-friendly area, it draws a mix of locals and travellers with its wide variety of food stalls, live music, and relaxed open-air atmosphere. The market stands out for its notably strong selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes — a relative rarity among Chiang Mai's night markets — alongside mainstream Thai favourites and fresh fruit smoothies. Visitors consistently highlight the cleanliness and presentation of the stalls compared to other markets in the city, as well as the variety of cuisines on offer. Standout items mentioned by regulars include mango smoothies, sticky rice, and pad see ew. The food is generally considered good value, and the communal setting makes it a comfortable choice for solo travellers and groups alike. Live music adds to the atmosphere, giving it more of an evening entertainment feel than a straightforward food stop. Good to know: Lanna Square is best experienced after 7pm, when the market is in full swing and the atmosphere comes alive. Those with specific dietary requirements — particularly vegans and vegetarians — will find more options here than at many comparable markets in the city. As stall availability can vary, arriving with an open mind about what is on offer that evening is advisable. The Ratvithi Road location is accessible by tuk-tuk or on foot from most central Chiang Mai accommodation.

Visitor Reviews
Yes it's not the real Thailand but you are in Chiang Mai city:-) I actually liked the diversity of different types of foods, presentation and cleanliness of this night market compared to many others. Lot's of young folks from all over the world chatting different languages and playing cards. Peaceful atmosphere and good vibes. Cherry on cake, they propose recycling trash and this owes a 5 stars (at least for the education effort) as rarely seen in South East Asia.
There was so many interesting vegan and vegetarian choices, I wish I had more time to try everything. I was sad I had to leave Thailand. I had my last meal in Thailand at lanna square and my pad see ew was very good. The only downside was there was some mosquitoes biting me while I ate.
Cute, lovely ambiance! There is a variety of food to choose from and drinks/smoothies! Try the Mango smoothie and sticky rice, as they are the best! 🥭❤️ Best recommended to go after 7pm!
Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
