La Vida Hostel
Tucked along Ratchamanka Road in the heart of Chiang Mai's Old City, La Vida Hostel is a boutique backpacker property with a notable western restaurant attached, making it a worthwhile stop for both accommodation seekers and diners curious about something different from the usual Thai fare. The kitchen specialises in Alsatian dishes — a regional French-German cuisine rarely found in northern Thailand — with flammkuchen (Alsatian flatbread) drawing particular praise from guests who have sampled the menu. The property itself is described by visitors as immaculately clean and well-maintained around the clock, with comfortable dormitory beds and genuinely attentive staff. A rooftop area with a pool and jacuzzi adds a social dimension that goes beyond what most hostels in the area offer, giving the space a relaxed, community feel without sacrificing comfort or cleanliness. For those planning a meal rather than a stay, it is worth checking the website at lavida-cnx.com ahead of time, as opening hours are not publicly listed and the restaurant operates within a hostel setting, meaning availability may vary. The Ratchamanka Road location places it within easy walking distance of Chiang Mai's key Old City temples and landmarks, making it a convenient base or dining stop for those exploring the area on foot.

Visitor Reviews
Highly recommend this hostel for backpackers of all ages. Everything is very clean, friendly and they even have a rooftop with a pool/jacuzzi to relax. The food is yummy and they offer some Alsatian pizzas called Flammkuchen. The dorms are spacious and it feels very private with their lovely cabins. Staff is friendly and always there to help and give tips for day trips etc. The hostel just opened recently. I will come back for sure.
I stayed 4 nights here and had such an amazing time. The place is kept immaculately clean (24/7), it’s brand new, staff very friendly and available and beds were as comfy as they can get. In the dorm rooms, the beds are in enclosed cabins so there’s lots of privacy. Each had its own fan, albeit a bit noisy, in addition to the AC in the room. The owner also mentioned that the walls are soundproofed, and I believe it as the rooms were very quiet. The owner is a lot of fun. Activities are organized regularly. I really enjoyed the BBQ on the roof, by the pool and bar. Other things are organized, like morning yoga and pub crawls. Lots of opportunities to meet people. Overall, you should definitely stay here.
I stayed in this property for 3 nights and I have to say it was really nice. The beds were really cosy and quiet, also the staff are super friendly. I also tried the falmmkuchen in the restaurant wich I can really recommend 🙏🏻 all in all I had a good stay
Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
