Absorn Thai Bistro
Situated on Mahachai Road in Bangkok's historic Phra Nakhon district, this Thai bistro has built a strong reputation for delivering authentic, well-executed Thai cuisine in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Surrounded by the character of the Old City, it draws both locals and visitors looking for genuine flavours without the fanfare of more tourist-facing establishments. The menu leans into Thai classics done with care. Dishes highlighted by visitors include green curry rice, pad krapow, pad thai, crab omelette, cashew stir fry, deep fried shrimp, and spring rolls. Portions are fresh, flavours are considered, and the kitchen is not shy about spice — staff have been noted to proactively flag heat levels to diners, a small but appreciated touch. Complimentary side dishes and hot water have also been mentioned, reflecting a hospitable approach to service. Compared to nearby landmark eateries like Jay Fai or Thipsamai, it offers a more accessible price point, with some dishes available for as little as 59 baht. Open every day from 9:30 AM to 11:30 PM, the restaurant accommodates a wide range of meal times, from a late breakfast through to dinner. Those visiting the Old City for sightseeing will find it a convenient stop given its central location. Arriving during the mid-afternoon lull is a practical way to avoid any peak-hour wait, particularly on weekends when the area sees heavier foot traffic.

Visitor Reviews
A great experience in Bangkok. The food here is high-level Thai cuisine, beautifully prepared and full of authentic flavors. Everything we tried was excellent and very fresh. The staff are incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive. Highly recommended if you want to enjoy quality Thai food in a friendly atmosphere.
I wish I had room for more... I had the green curry rice with chicken and the cashew stir fry with shrimp. The curry was deliciously aromatic, and the prawns were juicy and fresh. The staff are polite and attentive, the atmosphere calming and relaxing. I will definitely come back.
Highly recommend! We had the sweet & sour chicken, green curry fired rice, deep fried shrimp and spring rolls. All were delicious! The waitress even reminded us that the curry was spicy which is always helpful. We then had their homemade coconut icecream which was delicious!

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
