Absorn Thai Bistro
Tucked along Mahachai Road in Bangkok's historic Phra Nakhon district, this Thai bistro has earned a strong following among both locals and visitors for its carefully prepared, authentic Thai cooking in an unpretentious, welcoming setting. Its location in the Old City makes it a natural stop for those exploring the area's temples, markets, and heritage streets. The menu covers Thai staples executed with attention to quality and freshness. Standout dishes include green curry fried rice, pad krapow, pad thai, crab omelette, cashew stir fry, deep fried shrimp, and spring rolls. The kitchen takes spice seriously, and staff have been noted to proactively flag heat levels before diners dig in. Complimentary side dishes and hot water are a regular touch, reflecting a hospitable approach that extends beyond the plate. Compared to nearby landmark spots like Jay Fai or Thipsamai, the pricing is notably accessible, with select dishes available from as little as 59 baht. Open every day from 9:30 AM to 11:30 PM, the restaurant suits a wide range of meal times, from a late breakfast through to a full dinner sitting. Those planning to visit on weekends should bear in mind that the Phra Nakhon area draws steady foot traffic throughout the day. Arriving during the mid-afternoon lull, between the lunch and dinner rushes, is a practical way to secure a table without a wait.

Visitor Reviews
A great experience in Bangkok. The food here is high-level Thai cuisine, beautifully prepared and full of authentic flavors. Everything we tried was excellent and very fresh. The staff are incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive. Highly recommended if you want to enjoy quality Thai food in a friendly atmosphere.
I wish I had room for more... I had the green curry rice with chicken and the cashew stir fry with shrimp. The curry was deliciously aromatic, and the prawns were juicy and fresh. The staff are polite and attentive, the atmosphere calming and relaxing. I will definitely come back.
Highly recommend! We had the sweet & sour chicken, green curry fired rice, deep fried shrimp and spring rolls. All were delicious! The waitress even reminded us that the curry was spicy which is always helpful. We then had their homemade coconut icecream which was delicious!

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
