Laem Yai
Laem Yai sits on the northern coast of Koh Samui, offering a noticeably quieter alternative to the island's busier tourist beaches. The shoreline is backed by coconut palms and a handful of resorts, giving it a secluded, low-key character that appeals to travellers looking to escape the crowds. The water is consistently praised for its clarity, and the area attracts snorkellers and those simply after a peaceful spot to watch the sun go down over the Gulf of Thailand. Visitors should arrive with realistic expectations about the beach itself. The shoreline is rocky and pebbly in sections rather than pure sand, and low tide can make swimming difficult. Beach access also varies depending on where you enter, as some stretches near resort properties are more restricted than others. That said, the combination of clear water, minimal foot traffic, and a genuinely relaxed atmosphere makes it a worthwhile stop for the right kind of traveller. A practical note: conditions along this stretch change significantly with the tide, so timing a visit around high tide is advisable for swimming. For sunset viewing, arriving in the early evening tends to reward with the best light. If you want refreshments nearby, a small number of resorts along the beach welcome walk-in guests for drinks, making it easy to settle in for the afternoon without bringing your own supplies.

Visitor Reviews
probably the best beach in koh samui. although it is not the best place to swim because of low tide, most clear water, fish and almost no people make this place a hit! it is a good thing that most people dont know the location. also the enterance is tricky ;)))) if you are not into partying and getting drunk, this is the place to go.
Very quiet and peaceful beach. Good for sunsets. There’s a lot of rocks and pebbles on the beach itself but the water was clear and blue. Not much tourists. Some trash on the sand and doesn’t look like the beach is cleaned much.
Beach is quiet but it's not fantastic there are some resorts to stop and buy a drink..

Tips for Visiting Beaches & Islands
Check Monsoon Seasons
The Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi) has rough seas from May to October. The Gulf coast (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan) is roughest from October to December. Plan your island-hopping around these windows.
Snorkel Gear Is Cheap to Buy
Rental gear is often scratched and ill-fitting. Buy a decent mask and snorkel at a Tesco Lotus or Big C for 300–500 THB — cheaper than two days of rentals and much more hygienic.
Book Ferries on 12Go.Asia
The 12Go platform lets you compare ferry operators, times, and prices between islands. Book a day or two ahead in high season. Avoid the cheapest operators if reviews mention safety concerns.
