Samui Elephant Conservation
Nestled in the Maret area of Koh Samui, this conservation-focused sanctuary offers visitors a genuine, unhurried experience with elephants in a setting built around animal welfare rather than performance. The elephants roam freely rather than being kept in enclosures all day, and the atmosphere is relaxed and educational, with knowledgeable guides on hand to explain elephant behaviour, biology, and Thailand's wildlife protection efforts. Walk-ins are welcome and have been greeted with private tours, though the experience is intimate enough that it rarely feels crowded. A standard visit typically includes feeding and close-contact time with the elephants, with guests able to take photos alongside them under staff supervision. The on-site cafe provides a comfortable spot to rest before or after the experience, and facilities including clean bathrooms are noted by visitors. Staff are praised for their warmth and English-language communication, making this accessible for international travellers of all ages. Guides bring genuine enthusiasm to the role, creating a personal connection that goes beyond a standard tour. Good to know: The sanctuary is open every day from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, making it easy to fit into any itinerary. Walk-ins are accepted, but booking ahead is advisable during the peak tourist season between November and February. Wear comfortable clothing you do not mind getting dirty, and bring closed-toe shoes suitable for uneven ground and possible mud contact.

Visitor Reviews
Loved this place They take such good care of the elephants And everyone is very kind spare the elephants They’re also not in the cages all day They tend to stroll out and about quiet often but during feeding time and time needed in the shade they will be in their cages Highly recommend seeing them Can wash them too if you wanted
We had a truly heartwarming experience at the therapeutic elephant sanctuary in Koh Samui. The love and care for the elephants are felt in every moment. Our guide, Dragon, was wonderful warm, attentive, and full of genuine care. This experience touched our hearts and is highly recommended.
We were driving around Samui and saw this place on the map and decided to visit. It was very nice they had a cool cafe and nice bathrooms. Staff were friendly and spoke good English. They were knowledgeable and answered our questions. They had 4 elephants 3 female and one male. One was a baby just 9 months old very cute. We didn’t pay anything but I think you have to pay it you want to feed the elephants? We didn’t buy drinks and left a donation to support them, they seemed ethical and said their elephants were rescued from the circus and seem to be living happy healthy lives there. He said they get taken out for walks and swimming in their pool. Would recommend a visit and was way better than paying 1,600 Baht for a tour at some of the other places. Better to go here by yourself and donate however much you feel comfortable. Thank you 🙏

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
