Wachirathan Waterfall
Wachirathan Waterfall is one of the standout natural attractions within Doi Inthanon National Park, located in the Chom Thong area of Chiang Mai province. Among the several waterfalls found in the park, Wachirathan is notable for its sheer force and impressive scale, with visitors frequently describing it as one of the most energetic and visually striking waterfalls in the region. Morning light conditions can produce vivid rainbows across the cascade, making it a rewarding stop for photographers and nature enthusiasts alike. Access is straightforward by Thai waterfall standards. A paved path with steps leads directly to the falls, and three separate viewpoints allow visitors to experience the cascade from different angles and distances. The atmosphere is open and invigorating, with the roar of the falls creating a strong sensory impression. The site includes parking, toilet facilities, and is well-suited as a planned stop along the Doi Inthanon route rather than a standalone excursion. Good to know: Wachirathan sits inside Doi Inthanon National Park, so a park entrance fee applies. The path can be slippery near the falls, so sturdy footwear with grip is strongly recommended. Water flow is most dramatic during and shortly after the rainy season (May to October), though the falls run year-round. Arriving in the morning offers the best chance of seeing rainbows in the mist and generally quieter conditions before tour groups arrive later in the day.

Visitor Reviews
"Nature’s Powerhouse – Refreshing and Energizing" Wachirathan is the most energetic waterfall I’ve ever visited. If you’re feeling stuck or mentally exhausted, the sheer power of this place will wake you up. The mist is everywhere, and standing near the base feels like a literal cleansing of the spirit. It’s much more popular and busier than Mae Ya, but the energy here is infectious. Watching the rainbows form in the spray is a highlight that never gets old. It’s the perfect place to stop, take a deep breath of that fresh mountain air, and feel the "reset." An absolute must-see in Doi Inthanon!
Wachirathan Waterfall (น้ำตกวชิรธาร) is one of the most impressive and easiest-to-visit waterfalls in Doi Inthanon National Park. A short paved path and steps lead to viewpoints right near the falls, so you don’t need a long hike. The waterfall is powerful year-round, and the spray often creates rainbows on sunny days—great for photos. Expect it to be busy with tour groups, but it’s absolutely worth the stop.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
