Chiang Mai Night Safari
Located about 16 kilometres southwest of Chiang Mai city centre in Hang Dong district, this expansive wildlife park stands out as one of northern Thailand's more unusual attractions — a full-scale zoo and safari experience that operates well into the evening. The park houses a wide variety of animal species across open, naturalistic enclosures, and the after-dark tram rides are the signature draw, allowing visitors to observe nocturnal animals at close range in a setting that feels markedly different from a conventional daytime zoo visit. The park opens daily from 11:00 to 22:00, giving visitors the option to arrive in the afternoon and stay through the evening to catch both the daytime and night safari tram tours. Reviewers consistently highlight the health and condition of the animals as a standout feature, and the tram rides are frequently praised for bringing guests close to wildlife in a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere. There are also shows and activities suited to younger visitors, making it a reasonable choice for families. A few practical points are worth noting before visiting. The car park sits at a considerable distance from the entrance, and the walk can be challenging for elderly visitors or those travelling with young children, so factor in extra time on arrival. Checking the official website at chiangmainightsafari.com ahead of your visit is recommended for current ticket pricing, tram schedules, and show times. Arriving in the late afternoon allows visitors to experience both the daytime grounds and the full night safari without feeling rushed.

Visitor Reviews
The best zoo I’ve been to. Which isn’t saying much, since I haven’t been to that many lol. Still, it’s a unique experience and not something I expected to find in Thailand. Most of the place is very well built and thoughtfully designed, and it’s packed with shows and activities. I really like the walking trails. They’re chill, nicely designed, and pleasant to walk through. The safari ride is a must. Feeding giraffes and zebras is great. That said, I really don’t like the tiger zone. It’s a bit depressing and poorly designed. The show requires large groups of visitors to move together from room to room, which feels dangerous when there are crowds and kids around, rushing to earn the best spot. And the enclosures are also too small for the tigers, and they don’t look happy at all. Honestly, Moo Deng has it better than Ava. The fountain show was… surprisingly great. I didn’t expect much, but it genuinely blew me away. As a Thai, I didn’t even know Thailand could pull off this kind of show. It’s not the biggest or best fountain show in the world, but it’s tall, impressive, and definitely surprising. Overall, I love this zoo. It’s modern, clean, and beautifully designed, easily better than most zoos I’ve visited in Thailand. The worst part is transportation after you’re done. Expect to pay almost as much as the zoo ticket itself, because there’s basically no taxi or Grab available. I waited almost an hour, gave up, and ended up calling the most expensive Grab tier just to get out.
The night safari was hands down one of the best experiences we’ve had. The animals look incredibly healthy, well cared for, and genuinely happy in their environment, which made the whole experience even more special. It’s perfect for families and young kids—very engaging, exciting, and well organised. The shows are all well scheduled and absolutely worth attending, so don’t skip any if you can help it. A memorable, educational, and fun experience for all ages. Highly recommended!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had an amazing evening at the Chiang Mai Night Safari — truly one of the best experiences in Thailand. The tram ride was incredible, seeing the animals up close in a natural setting at night made it feel really special, and everything was so well organised and family friendly. The staff were welcoming, the park was spotless, and the whole experience ran smoothly from start to finish. A must-visit if you’re in Chiang Mai — 10/10 and highly recommended.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
