Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort อนันตรา สามเหลี่ยมทองคำ แคมป์ช้าง แอนด์ รีสอร์ท

4.8(578 reviews)

Perched in the scenic Golden Triangle where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar converge near Chiang Saen, this resort and elephant camp offers a rare combination of meaningful wildlife experiences and upscale wellness facilities. The property serves as both a working elephant sanctuary and a luxury hospitality destination, allowing guests to engage with elephants in their natural habitat while the surrounding landscape of lush hills and the Mekong River adds significant depth to a stay. Personal concierge service, a ceremonial arrival experience, and attentive but unobtrusive hospitality are frequently highlighted by guests as defining features of the property. Visitors can expect a genuinely immersive atmosphere that balances outdoor activity with comfort and relaxation. Elephant interactions during the day give way to spa treatments and resort amenities in the evenings, with the experience designed as a cohesive whole rather than a collection of separate offerings. The food and dining have also drawn consistent praise, and the property's relative remoteness from the main town contributes to its notably peaceful character. Good to know: The Golden Triangle location is a considerable distance from central Chiang Rai, so guests should plan accordingly and consider dedicating at least two to three nights to make the journey worthwhile. The cooler months from November to February offer the most comfortable conditions for outdoor elephant activities and exploration of the surrounding region. Given the specialised nature of animal welfare schedules, advance booking for elephant experiences is strongly recommended to secure preferred activity times.

Visitor Reviews

My husband and I spent two nights here on our honeymoon, and truly—this property is nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, greeted by the rhythmic drum ceremony and offered relaxing mini-massages at check-in (where else does that?!), we knew we were somewhere extraordinary. Our suite overlooked sweeping views of the countryside and the elephants, which made every moment feel surreal. We booked the Explorer Package, which included two activities each, and chose Walking With the Giants and a local market and longtail boat cultural tour. Walking alongside the elephants is an experience neither of us will ever forget—their calm presence, beauty, and the deep sense of connection was beyond anything we imagined. It’s also clear how well cared for they are, and how meaningful the camp’s mission is to both provide sanctuary for elephants in capacity while supporting the expansion of the wild elephant population. Our cultural excursion was just as memorable. We spent the afternoon with a wonderful local guide exploring Chiang Saen’s markets, temples, and historic sites before cruising up the Mekong River on a longtail boat—a peaceful, scenic end to a perfect day. We also enjoyed spa treatments during our stay, and they were among the best we’ve ever had. The therapists were incredibly skilled, and the whole experience left us so relaxed. The food was delicious across every restaurant, and every single team member we encountered went above and beyond. A special shoutout to Brooklyn, who brightened each interaction with kindness and ensured every detail of our stay felt perfect. We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. If you find yourself in Northern Thailand, this is an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime place to stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Anandara. We’ve visited several Asian countries in the past including Vietnam and a bit of Cambodia. Each is truly unique and Anandara epitomizes some of the very special qualities of Thailand. First, the cultural aesthetics really stand out with gorgeous Buddhist shrines, temples and ruins. The appreciation for and emphasis on all that is pleasing to the eye extends to everything at this resort including rooms, public areas, gardens, and the food presentation. The standards are very high in all ways. The staff can’t do enough for their guests and are just delightful. This applies in general and for each of our “adventures”. We had a terrific highly knowledgeable guide for the local tour; a fun cooking class chef who gave us a delicious and very worthwhile experience; another chef and crew whose services made the sunset dinner in the trees memorable; fabulous massages at the spa (get the “Signature” massage and foot massage); and a wonderfully unique walk with the elephants. One caution: the sky bike is quite strenuous as there is just one set of pedals to move 2 people about 300 meters, requiring strength and endurance, particularly in the heat of the day. Nonetheless, the staff person for this was also delightful. Food a drinks are all prepared with skill and care. In sum, an enthusiastic 5 out of 5!

A Peaceful Retreat with Heartfelt Hospitality and Gentle Giants 🐘 The location is a bit far from the main town, but that’s exactly what makes it so peaceful. Surrounded by lush greenery, it’s a perfect place to relax, retreat your mind, and reconnect with nature. My most memorable experience was walking with the giant elephants and learning more about each of their unique stories truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, every staff member was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The welcome ritual was a beautiful and meaningful touch, something rare to find elsewhere. Special thanks to Khun Nancy and Khun Fon for their kindness and for taking such good care of us. At the restaurant, the staff were just as wonderful friendly, helpful, and always ready to recommend dishes or answer any questions. The food was delicious, full of authentic local flavors. Our room was fantastic, and the housekeeping team went above and beyond. The little elephant they prepared for us as a farewell gift was such a thoughtful gesture. Thank you to everyone for the exceptional service and for creating such a memorable stay. We would love to come back again if we have the chance. 😊🙏🏻🤍

Tips for Visiting Wellness & Spas

Learn Wat Pho First

Wat Pho in Bangkok is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage education. Their on-site massage pavilion offers excellent treatments from students and graduates at reasonable prices — and you know the technique is authentic.

Communicate Pressure Preferences

Thai massage can be intense. Say 'bao bao' for lighter pressure or 'nак nак' for harder. A good therapist will check in, but don't hesitate to speak up — suffering in silence defeats the purpose.

Book Longer Sessions

A 60-minute massage is fine, but 90 or 120 minutes allows the therapist to work thoroughly. The price difference is often only 200–400 THB for an extra hour — worth it for a deeper, more relaxing experience.
