Khao Rang Viewpoint

4.5(6,804 reviews)

Perched on Khao Rang Hill in Phuket's Wichit district, this elevated viewpoint delivers sweeping panoramic views across Phuket Town and the island's coastline on both sides. It functions as a public park as much as a scenic lookout, with a calm, unhurried atmosphere that stands apart from the busier tourist zones elsewhere on the island. A resident population of wild monkeys adds an unexpected point of interest, though visitors should keep their distance and avoid carrying food or loose belongings openly. Access is free, and the site is generally uncrowded, making it a relaxed stop for those seeking a broad perspective on Phuket's layout without committing to a major excursion. A coffee vendor on site means visitors can linger comfortably, and parking is plentiful. The grounds are noted as somewhat lacking in maintenance, so expectations should be set accordingly — the appeal lies primarily in the views and the peaceful setting rather than polished facilities. The viewpoint works best as a half-hour stop within a wider itinerary exploring Phuket Town and its surroundings. Early morning or late afternoon visits are recommended to avoid midday heat and to catch better light for photography. Public toilets are available on site for a small charge. Comfortable footwear and sun protection are advisable.

Visitor Reviews

Lovely viewpoint with views over both sides of the island. Lots of monkey around. They didnt show any signs of aggressiveness towards us, but I'd highly recommend not taking anything you're not willing to lose. Have had previous experiences with monkeys in Phuket and they aren't always that friendly.

A very pleasant stop! Khao Rang Hill offers a beautiful panoramic view of Phuket Town and the coastline. It’s a peaceful spot to catch a breeze, grab a coffee, and take a few photos. Definitely worth the quick drive up.

- spectacular landscape of Phuket city view - free to access - charge for using public toilet - plenty of parking lot - easy to come and visit - calm and chill vibes - not crowded

Tips for Visiting Temples & Culture

Dress Modestly

Cover shoulders and knees at all temples. Carry a light scarf or sarong — some temples lend wraps, but not all. Shoes come off before entering any building with a Buddha image.

Mind Your Feet

Never point your feet at a Buddha image or a monk — it's considered deeply disrespectful. When sitting inside a temple, tuck your feet behind you or to the side.

Ask Before Photographing

Exterior photos are almost always fine, but some interior halls prohibit photography. Look for signs, and never pose irreverently with Buddha images — it's a legal offense in Thailand.
