Dev Mandir Chiang Mai
Tucked along Rattanakosin Road near the heart of Chiang Mai, Dev Mandir is a Hindu temple serving both the local community and visitors with an interest in Indian spiritual culture. The temple houses multiple Hindu shrines under one roof, making it a rare and distinctive place of worship in northern Thailand. Festivals from the Hindu calendar are observed and celebrated here throughout the year, giving the temple a living, active character rather than a purely ornamental one. Visitors can expect a clean, well-maintained space with a calm and devotional atmosphere. The temple welcomes curious visitors alongside practising Hindus, and the scent of incense and the presence of dedicated shrines create a contemplative environment unlike most of Chiang Mai's Buddhist temples. Tuesday evenings are particularly notable, as the temple offers a community meal program, adding a generous and communal dimension to the visit. On a practical note, Dev Mandir opens daily from 15:00 to 19:30, so plan accordingly and avoid arriving outside these hours. As with any active place of worship, visitors should dress modestly — covering shoulders and knees is advisable — and be mindful that this is a functioning religious site, not a tourist attraction in the conventional sense. Respectful conduct toward the resident community and fellow worshippers is expected and appreciated.

Tips for Visiting Temples & Culture
Dress Modestly
Cover shoulders and knees at all temples. Carry a light scarf or sarong — some temples lend wraps, but not all. Shoes come off before entering any building with a Buddha image.
Mind Your Feet
Never point your feet at a Buddha image or a monk — it's considered deeply disrespectful. When sitting inside a temple, tuck your feet behind you or to the side.
Ask Before Photographing
Exterior photos are almost always fine, but some interior halls prohibit photography. Look for signs, and never pose irreverently with Buddha images — it's a legal offense in Thailand.
