Late Night Street Foods And Noodles

4.4(228 reviews)

This open-air collection of around 20 street food carts lines the side of Hussadhisawee Road each evening, drawing a crowd of local students and travellers looking for an unpretentious, affordable late-night meal away from the heavier tourist markets nearby. The relaxed, neighbourhood atmosphere sets it apart from Chiang Mai's more commercialised food areas, offering a genuinely local experience at genuinely local prices. Visitors can browse a variety of speciality vendors, each typically focusing on a particular dish or style. Noodle-based plates are a staple, and the khao kha moo — braised pork leg over rice — comes particularly recommended by regulars. Most dishes are priced around 50 THB, making it an easy stop for a quick bite after an evening out, a visit to a night market, or a late wander through the Old City. Seating is casual and street-side, so the draw here is squarely the food and the atmosphere rather than any formal dining setup. The carts begin setting up from 6pm and trade through to 4am every night of the week, making it one of the few reliable late-night food options in this part of Chiang Mai. Cash is the practical way to pay at vendors like these, so it is worth arriving with small Thai baht notes on hand. Casual clothing suits the setting perfectly.

Visitor Reviews

Cheap and pretty decent street food vendors line up on the side of the street at night. It seems like many of the local students come here to eat as well. There are about 20 different vendors that cover noodles, skewers, rice dishes, and local desserts.

More street carts on the side of the road than a "street market" and I loved it!!! Great food and chilled vibe. Spot to go when you are over the hustle of the heavy tourist street markets around chang rai.

Lots of great little speciality food vendors along this street. The Khao Khao moo vendor is really tasty! #BeatTheGrind

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
