Sunday Night Market
Running every Sunday from 4 PM to 10 PM, this large evening market in central Chiang Rai draws a predominantly local crowd, giving it a genuinely authentic feel that sets it apart from more tourist-oriented markets in the region. Vendors fill the space with handmade crafts, traditional textiles, second-hand clothing, and local artwork alongside a wide variety of street food stalls serving everything from pork dumplings and sugarcane juice to takoyaki and Northern Thai curries. Live music and occasional cultural performances add to the relaxed, social atmosphere that builds steadily as the evening progresses. The food offering is a clear highlight, with stalls generally well-kept and the variety broad enough to satisfy most appetites. The market has both covered and open-air sections, making it comfortable to browse even as crowds grow. Popular food vendors can sell out by late evening, so those with specific dishes in mind will find the best selection earlier in the night. A practical note: arriving between 5 PM and 7 PM offers the best combination of full stalls and manageable crowds, as the market gets noticeably busier after 7 PM. Bringing small bills makes transactions smoother with vendors who may not accept cards. The market is accessible by songthaew or local transport and sits within easy reach of other restaurants and shops in central Chiang Rai, making it a natural anchor for a Sunday evening out.

Visitor Reviews
Sunday Night Bazaar, Chiang Rai I had an amazing experience at the Sunday Night Bazaar in Chiang Rai! It's open only on Sundays starting from 4 PM, making it a unique weekly event. The bazaar features a fantastic variety of local foods at affordable prices—each stall offers delicious and authentic flavors. Beyond the food, there's also a charming local market where you can find clothes, bags, shoes, jackets, and more—all at great prices. It's the perfect spot for both foodies and shoppers. Highly recommended!
We had such a great evening exploring the night market and trying lots of amazing food. We had pork dumplings, strawberry juice, takoyaki with cheese and ham, Korean crispy chicken, sugarcane juice, and a tart with chocolate cream, jelly, and Berliner-style donuts for dessert. Everything tasted really good!
Awesome, extremely big, night market with delicious local thai food and very very friendly Thai people. Most are locals, nearly no tourist - very authentic 🥰🤩 A super nice experience - thank you very much! I totally recommend 👌🏽

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
