Night Bazaar Shopping Street
Stretching along Changklan Road in central Chiang Mai, this long-running night market is far larger than it first appears. What looks like a single shopping street quickly reveals itself as a network of connected stalls and side markets extending in multiple directions — visitors who think they have covered it all are often only a third of the way through. The range of goods spans locally made textiles, woodcarvings, ceramics, hill tribe handicrafts, clothing, accessories, and artwork, alongside a strong street food presence with plenty of spots to stop and eat. The atmosphere is lively and social, particularly after dark when vendors are fully set up and foot traffic peaks. Bargaining is standard practice here, and prices are generally reasonable, though some patience and negotiation are needed to get the better deals. The market draws a mix of locals and travellers, giving it an authentic, lived-in energy rather than a purely tourist-facing feel. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended given the size of the area, and cash is essential as many smaller stalls do not accept cards. Allow at least two to three hours to cover the market properly. The evening hours are when the market is at its most active, so arriving after dark makes for the fullest experience.

Visitor Reviews
Night Bazaar Shopping Street is one of the most vibrant and popular evening spots in Chiang Mai. The street comes alive at night with endless stalls selling clothes, souvenirs, handicrafts, accessories, and local artwork. There’s a great variety of street food and small eateries nearby, making it easy to shop and dine at the same time. The atmosphere is lively and busy, especially after sunset, with music and a buzzing crowd. Prices are generally fair, and bargaining is common. Overall, it’s a must visit place for night shopping, casual strolling, and soaking in the local night market experience.
A traditional night market street where you can find affordable items, including unique local Thai products. You can also enjoy authentic Thai food at the street food night market. Highly recommended for those looking to explore this vibrant venue.
It's become a ritual of mine to walk the night bazaar a few times a week. There are plenty of spots to stop for food and music. When you think you've found it all, you're probably about 1/3 the way to actually finding it all. I'm a month in and I'm still finding tucked away bits of the night bazaar. Have fun, explore, repeat.
Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
