Ayuthaya Prawn Market
Tucked into the Hantra Sub-district of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, this bustling riverside market is the go-to destination for fresh giant river prawns — a dish closely associated with Ayutthaya and beloved by locals and returning visitors alike. Around two dozen small open-air restaurants line the area, each serving largely similar menus built around live prawns sold by size, with pricing remaining fairly consistent across vendors. Seafood is cooked to order, and diners can typically specify their preferred cooking style. The atmosphere is decisively local, with Thai families and regulars making up the bulk of the crowd. The experience sits somewhere between a wet market and an informal food court — visitors select their seafood, then eat on-site at one of the surrounding restaurants. Beyond prawns, fresh fish and other seafood are available, alongside the kind of relaxed, unhurried dining environment that characterises community eating spots throughout Thailand. Good to know: The market opens at 7:00 AM daily, with slightly extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays until 9:00 PM. Weekend mornings are popular, and parking is limited, so arriving early is advisable. Bring cash, as small vendors are unlikely to accept cards. Those hoping to try the prawn roe — noted by regulars as a particular highlight — should aim to visit when supply is at its freshest, ideally earlier in the day.

Visitor Reviews
Area has about 2 dozen small restaurants serving basically the same items, with focus on large live river pawns. Price of prawns are based on size and fairly consistent between various restaurants. I've eaten here many times and, while the experiences overall are memorable, I've yet to find a restaurant that stands out. There are other shops here too, selling various deserts and even knives/swords. Located just north of Bangkok next to the highway to Ayuttaya, I highly recommend it for something different.
Great choices of seafood to choose from. If you never try the giant river prawns, u have never been to Ayutthaya. Fresh seafood here and u tell them what kind of cooking style u want. By default, they will BBQ everything. The BBQ shrimps were very satisfying! It's a little expensive but it's worth it. Not an everyday affair to eat these. No regrets!!
we had our seafood lunch packed with locals.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
