Khao Phing Kan
Khao Phing Kan, widely known as James Bond Island, is one of Thailand's most recognisable natural landmarks, rising dramatically from the emerald waters of Phang Nga Bay between Phuket and Krabi. The island gained international fame after featuring in the 1974 James Bond film "The Man with the Golden Gun," and its towering limestone karst scenery continues to draw visitors from around the world. The surrounding bay is equally impressive, with sea caves accessible at low tide and mangrove-lined waterways that reward exploration. The island is almost always visited as part of an organised boat tour, which typically includes stops at sea caves, opportunities to canoe through limestone caverns into hidden lagoons, and scenic passages through the mangroves. The island itself has a market area with souvenir stalls along the beach, though visitors should be aware that prices are not always displayed and initial quotes tend to be significantly inflated — negotiating is expected. The experience can be busy, particularly during peak season, and the commercial presence on the beach is noticeable. For the best experience, visitors are advised to book a full-day tour that combines James Bond Island with canoeing excursions, as the caves and hidden atolls are widely considered the scenic highlight of the journey. Arriving earlier in the day helps avoid the heaviest crowds. As the island is reached entirely by water, comfortable, quick-drying clothing and footwear suitable for wet conditions are recommended.

Visitor Reviews
Khao Phing Kan was one of the four stops during this wonderful boat tour. The James Bond Island was amazing. At two other stops, we canoed into caves. Reaching an atoll through the cave was a surreal experience. The boat crew was great who made the tour an enjoyable experience.
James bond island where they filmed man with the golden gun lovely to see but as you can imagine gets busy and sadly build a market right in the middle of the beach with is sad but this is what happens where there is money to be earned but still very nice to see
The boat trip to Khao Phing Kan / James Bond Island was a pleasant experience, taking us on a scenic route through the mangroves.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
