LIVING GREEN ELEPHANT SANCTUARY(BANGKOK&PATTAYA)
Situated in the Chonburi region's Bang Phra area, this ethical elephant sanctuary offers travellers a hands-on, conservation-focused experience with rescued elephants in a natural setting. Conveniently positioned between Bangkok and Pattaya, it draws visitors looking for meaningful wildlife encounters that prioritise animal welfare over performance-based tourism. A typical visit includes feeding, bathing, and walking alongside the elephants, guided by knowledgeable staff who share each animal's individual history and background. Visitors consistently highlight the attentiveness of the guides — named staff members like Mod and Lulu appear regularly in guest accounts — and the genuine care visible in how the animals are managed. A included lunch and refreshments are provided during the day, making it a well-rounded full-day outing rather than a brief stopover. The sanctuary operates daily from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM throughout the week. Good to know: the sanctuary is approximately two hours from Bangkok by road, so an early start is recommended to make the most of the day. Wear clothes you do not mind getting wet and muddy, and opt for closed-toe shoes, as bathing the elephants is an interactive, full-contact activity. Booking in advance through the sanctuary's website at livinggreenelephantsanctuary.com/chonburi is strongly advised, as spots are limited and pre-booking ensures visitors receive confirmed activity details and timings ahead of arrival.

Visitor Reviews
We had an incredible elephant encounter at Living Green Elephant in mid-January 2026. It is a 2 hours drive from Bangkok but it is worth all the troubles. The staff members greeted us with a lunch (afternoon session) and detailed information about the background of the sanctuary and the tour. The camps where we set off is clean with all necessary facilities considering the remoteness of the locations. After feeding the elephant in pens, we took a relatively easy hike up the hill to get a closer look at them in their more comfortable natural setting. The commentary from the guide gave me a whole new perspective of human impact on domesticated elephant. The climax of the tour was the bathing of the elephants. Some brave souls jumped into the pool with the elephants for a splash time. I highly recommend the tour for supporting the great work by people who dedicated for making a better life for the elephants.
My husband and I had the most incredible time at this elephant sanctuary—truly one of the highlights of our entire trip! From the moment we arrived, we could feel how much care and respect is given to these beautiful animals. Getting to pet the elephants, feed them, and interact with them up close was beyond magical. You can really tell they’re happy and well-loved here. Our guide, Lulu, made the experience even better. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also absolutely hilarious! His stories, fun facts, and warm energy kept us smiling the whole time, and we learned so much without ever feeling like we were in a lecture. The meal provided was delicious as well—fresh, flavorful, and such a thoughtful addition to an already perfect day.
It was one of the best experiences of my life! The trainer explained everything about the elephants he takes care of, and listening to their stories was truly impressive and touching. It’s also a great activity to enjoy with kids. Our schedule was as follows: 1. Briefing from the trainer – about elephants and safety instructions 2. Feeding the elephants and photo time 3. Walking up the hill to enjoy the beautiful view with the elephants 4. Bathing the elephants 5. Lunch time If you plan to visit, here are some tips: The sun can be quite strong, so bring a sun cap and sunscreen. You might get wet, so wear clothes that can get wet and bring a towel (there’s a shower room available).

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
