Sunset at bamboo bridge
Stretching across active rice paddies in the Mae Hi area outside Pai, this bamboo bridge was originally constructed to allow monks from the local temple to pass through the fields without walking directly through the crops. That functional origin gives it an authenticity that sets it apart from more manufactured attractions — visitors are walking a structure that still serves its intended purpose within the local community. The elevated walkway offers expansive views over the surrounding paddy fields, particularly striking in the late afternoon light. The atmosphere varies depending on timing: popular hours bring the usual social media crowd, but those who visit at quieter moments find a genuinely peaceful elevated stroll with wide, open countryside views. A small cafe nearby is noted by visitors as a pleasant stop after the walk. Good to know: the bridge leads to a working temple, so appropriate clothing — covered shoulders and knees — is required to enter. Opening hours run from 9am to 8pm every day of the week, making an early evening visit a practical option for catching the sunset light the attraction is named for. Entrance arrangements appear informal, so visitors should not expect a staffed ticketing area. Given its location in Mae Hi village, most travellers reach it by motorbike or scooter from central Pai.

Visitor Reviews
The place is admittedly quite touristy, but still worth a visit. The bridge was built to make it easier for the monks to reach their temple without having to walk directly through the rice paddies. It leads across the various rice fields, past animals and a small café. The temple itself is definitely worth seeing. Bring a marker or similar pen so you can write your wishes on a stone. We didn't see any dogs, but we also didn't enter the area where dogs are explicitly prohibited. The back section, the part with the temple, is particularly less crowded, less touristy, and absolutely stunning. We also highly recommend the coffee, which is grown by the monks themselves and served in the café along the way. There's also a small hall where the monks display their art.
It sounded a bit corny when my wife suggested a visit but if you ignore all the instagram spots and are lucky enough to go when it’s quiet the you will have a very nice elevated walk over the working rice fields. There is a temple ate the end of the path with a basket of shawls for females to cover up if you want to visit, we didn’t. Entry fee was 30thb each with places to buy cheap water. Interesting road up to the area, some fresh tar but some broken-up concrete. Definitely worth a visit.
must need see in pai! really nice day activity. stunning views. MAKE SURE that you bring appropriate clothes so that you can enter the temple!

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
