Chinese Viewpoint
Perched in the mountains outside Pai, this viewpoint offers broad views across the forested hills and valleys that define Mae Hong Son Province. The climb to the top is steep — visitors arriving by motorcycle should note that bikes under 125cc will struggle on the incline — but the payoff is an open vantage point with expansive scenery, particularly rewarding on clear days. A small admission fee of 20 baht applies at the upper platform, and camping is available for those who want to extend the stay. Beyond the views, the site has a modest food offering on-site, with visitor reviews highlighting steam fish and pork knuckles as worthwhile options. This makes it a comfortable stop rather than a purely scenic pull-over, giving travellers a reason to linger. The atmosphere is low-key and relatively undeveloped, suiting those who prefer quieter, less commercialised spots. Good to know: Chinese Viewpoint fits best as a secondary stop within a broader Pai itinerary rather than a standalone destination. Honest visitor sentiment suggests it is a pleasant addition when time allows, but not essential if the schedule is tight. The dry season months of November through February offer the clearest skies and most manageable road conditions. Reaching the site requires your own transport — a rented motorcycle of 125cc or above, or a car — as no public access is reported. There are no listed opening hours, so arriving in the morning or late afternoon makes the most of cooler temperatures and better light for photography.

Visitor Reviews
At the very top, you’ll need to pay a small admittance fee if 20thb, but worth it for me. Very nice steam fish at the restaurant and nice pork knuckles.
Great view! Note that the way here is very steep, coming here with a motorcycle less then 125cc is not recommended
A nice stop in Pai, but I wouldn’t rate it as an absolutely must visit place! Fit it in if you can, otherwise don’t fret; you’re not missing out on much!

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
