The backdrop of limestone cliffs and cave formations makes the pier itself a visually striking place to wait or board. A tractor — reportedly a memorable sight in its own right — assists with luggage and movement along the pier area. Good to know: Boats heading to Ao Nang drop passengers at Ao Nam Mao pier, which has a proper landing so arrivals can disembark without getting wet — worth factoring in when choosing a return route. Reaching Railay itself requires arriving by boat from Ao Nang or via a rocky coastal route from neighbouring beaches, as there is no road access. Arriving earlier in the day generally means more departure options and less congestion at the pier.
