Huai Sai Wildlife Breeding Center
Situated between Hua Hin and Cha-am in Phetchaburi Province, this non-profit wildlife breeding and rehabilitation center offers a more intimate alternative to conventional zoos, with a genuine conservation mission at its core. The facility houses a varied collection of native Thai wildlife, including deer, gibbons, birds, and elephants, many kept in open or spacious enclosures designed to reflect natural habitats. For 50 baht, visitors can purchase a bucket of vegetables to hand-feed the animals directly, which proves to be a highlight for families and younger visitors in particular. The atmosphere is relaxed and low-key rather than polished or commercial, and that informality is part of its appeal. Animal lovers and wildlife photographers will appreciate the close-access viewing, while the center's rehabilitation focus gives the visit a sense of purpose beyond casual sightseeing. That said, prospective visitors should be aware that standards vary across enclosures, and some reviewers have noted concerns about the elephant handling practices, so those with strong views on animal welfare may wish to factor this into their decision. Good to know: Specific opening hours and pricing are not consistently available online, so it is worth checking locally through your accommodation before making the trip. Visiting during cooler morning hours is advisable for better animal activity and more comfortable conditions. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring sun protection, as most of the center is outdoors. The location is best reached by private car or hired transport from Hua Hin or Cha-am.

Visitor Reviews
A really nice little Zoo/Rehabilitation center in the Sam Phraya area between Hua Hin and Cha Am. Very open enclosures for local wildlife that includes many deer, wide open areas for Gibbons, many birds, a crocodile tank, and Bintaurangs that smell like candy corn, and an orphaned baby Elephant. At the entrance you can purchase bananas and squash to feed the deer and you stroll throughout the Zoo as well as a gift shop for the kids, and snacks for everyone. It has ample parking and seems to be never crowded creating a very peaceful atmosphere. There are rehab cages for Macaques that will need relocating back into the wild, as well as new arrivals of 3 varieties of Gibbons who's calls can be heard for a couple of moles away. Not the biggest Zoo around, but the staff and super nice, the enclosures kept clean, and it's free! So if you are in the area, be sure to treat yourself and your kids who will always find it fascinating.
Ideal for spending time with the kids or on your own. They're doing great work and deserve support. Get a 50 baht bucket of veggies and feed the animals. You'll be surprised at the variety you'll find. Not our first visit nor the last.
Brilliant trip out. Just wish the elephants were freer to roam

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
