Lam Nam Kok National Park
Lam Nam Kok National Park sits roughly 30 minutes from Chiang Rai and offers a quieter, more rugged alternative to the region's better-known attractions. The park is centred on the Kok River and the forested mountain terrain that surrounds it, drawing visitors who come for hiking, motorcycle exploration, camping, and natural hot springs. A standout trail leads through the forest to a local Akha village, taking around three to four hours at a relaxed pace and rewarding hikers with river views and genuine cultural encounter along the way. Hot springs within the park reach temperatures around 57 degrees Celsius, making them too hot for full immersion but offering foot soaking spots that visitors find genuinely relaxing. The atmosphere throughout the park is tranquil and largely undeveloped. Roads within the park are well maintained and well suited to motorcycle exploration without a fixed itinerary. Camping is available at no cost, with clean toilets and shower facilities on site, and river views that make it a practical and scenic base for an overnight stay. Wildlife and fresh mountain air add to the appeal, though some visitors have noted litter in certain areas, which is worth keeping in mind. Entrance to the park is free, making it an accessible option for travellers on any budget. The cooler dry season from November to February provides the most comfortable conditions for hiking. Sturdy footwear and sufficient water are recommended for trail walks. As opening hours and specific facilities are not consistently published online, checking current conditions with a local tourism office or guesthouse in Chiang Rai before visiting is advisable.

Visitor Reviews
We drove around this national park on a motorcycle (no itinerary) and we absolutely love it! The road is smooth and well maintained (a few bumps here and there but no biggie). There were not a lot of tourists and locals so there's no traffic, peaceful and we get to stop anytime and enjoy the view. There's a river that runs beside the road, there's a green tea plantation and there's this very interesting hot spring that you can't soak in (yet) because its too hot. We did not bring eggs so please bring some to boil in when you come visit. There's a campground and picnic area, there's plenty of waterfalls and streams. Locals live inside the park and they're always generous with their smiles. I look forward to what the government will do to further improve this park. It was a relaxing visit and a not-so-common way to explore Chiang Rai.
The hike was very rewarding - views, experience, local Akha village on the way and the nature. Amazing. Quite easy hike, but you will sweat a lot haha It's about 3h in fast peace and 4h without hurry. We took 8km route.
Absolutely tranquil, nature park in the middle of the mountains in Chaing Rai,hot spring is very hot though.. quite a drive but good views and fresh air, you can also camp out the night.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
