Huai Kang Pla Waterfall Forest Park
Tucked away in Mae Chan District north of Chiang Rai, this forested park centres on a river walk and waterfall that rewards visitors who prefer natural scenery over tourist infrastructure. The hike involves crossing the river several times, making it a genuinely interactive experience rather than a simple stroll, and the shaded forest canopy keeps temperatures comfortable throughout the walk. The waterfall itself is modest in size, but the journey through the woodland is widely considered the main attraction, with a creek reachable within just a few minutes of entering the park for those who prefer a shorter visit. The park suits a range of visitors, including families with young children, older travellers looking for a gentle riverside walk, and anyone seeking a quieter alternative to the region's more commercialised attractions. The natural setting lends itself to paddling, photography, and unhurried relaxation beside the water. Good to know: As of late 2025, a seasonal closure was in place restricting tourist access until at least 30 September 2025, so visitors should verify the park is open before making the trip. Wear water-resistant footwear, as river crossings are part of the route. No website or official contact is available, so checking with local guesthouses or the Mae Chan District tourism office is the most reliable way to confirm current access and conditions.

Visitor Reviews
Really nice walk! I did the walk with my husband and three children (8,6,3). You have to cross the river a couple of times. The kids really loved it! We read in another review there is a lot of garbage. Therefore we took a garbage bag with us and picked up the trash along the way. Unfortunately one garbage bag was not enough. Please make your pitstop not the last stop for the animals who will die from your trash.
Wonderfully off the beaten track. The waterfall itself is pretty small, but the hike to get there is great.
Relaxing Waterfall. No need to go higher, by 3 min walking you would find already a creek. You can enjoy, dip your body inside if you would like to

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
