จุดชมวิวดอยบ่อ (Doi bo view point)

4.3(97 reviews)

Doi Bo Viewpoint sits in the hills of Mae Yao, on the outskirts of Mueang Chiang Rai District, offering open panoramic views across the surrounding landscape. On clear days, visitors can spot the large Buddha statue visible in the distance, making the summit a rewarding destination for those willing to make the effort to reach it. The site is quiet and uncrowded, giving it a genuinely off-the-beaten-path character rarely found close to a provincial city. Getting here is the defining challenge of a visit. The road is steep, rough, and unforgiving — reviewers consistently recommend a minimum 125cc scooter for solo riders and 150cc when carrying a passenger. A 4x4 vehicle is the more reliable option for those less confident on two wheels. Walking is possible but demanding due to the steep gradient. Riders and drivers with limited experience on difficult terrain should think carefully before attempting the ascent, and everyone should avoid the road entirely in wet or rainy conditions when traction becomes seriously compromised. Facilities at the top are minimal — a gazebo on-site has fallen into disrepair, and some visitors have noted litter in the area. Arriving on a clear, dry day gives the best chance of an unobstructed view and a safe return journey. There are no listed opening hours or entry fees, and no website for advance information, so checking local weather and road conditions before heading out is strongly advised.

Visitor Reviews

Here’s what you need to summit Doi Bo Viewpoint well. 1) At least a 125cc scooter (solo) or 150cc if you have a companion riding with you. Having a proper motorcycle with clutch might be a liability unless you have fluid clutch control and experiencing balancing a heavier bike up a bouncing trail 2) dry weather. If it rained the day before some sections will be sloppy 3) ability to gently throttle to maintain momentum and balance without lowering legs in bumpy winding lines at about 5-10km/h in the steepest sections 4) ability to brake without locking up either wheel while creeping down steep grades at about 5km/h 5) ability to scan ahead to pick a line and commit while riding with peripheral vision 6) commitment to turn back if it rains or the trail becomes treacherous 7) self awareness and honesty to evaluate your personal ability 8) steady nerves for when you lose traction and the tires slip and slide into ruts 9)change of clothing—in case you soil yourself (just kidding) I included some photos of the rocky trail you will encounter. I did not stop to document the steep, deeply rutted muddy section of about 50m because I was losing some traction. Enjoy the ride!

As other's have mentioned, this is definitely a challenge on a motorbike. I wouldn't drive it if you're not confident on two wheels. It's otherwise a good view. But I definitely wouldn't go when it rains. That path is a bit much.

If you are not comfortable on a motorbike I do not recommend going up, very steep and the road is not good. The way back down isn’t much easier. If it is raining, I would not even try on a bike. Otherwise, the view is great!

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide

These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
