Thai Farm Cooking School
Set on a working farm on the outskirts of Chiang Mai, this cooking school offers a full-day immersion into traditional Thai cuisine that goes well beyond a standard classroom format. The experience begins with a guided tour of a local market, where instructors walk participants through the core ingredients behind Thai cooking, before the group heads to the farm to cook and eat together. The farm setting connects the food being prepared directly to the land and produce surrounding it, giving the experience a genuinely grounded quality that indoor cooking classes rarely replicate. Classes are kept small and the atmosphere is relaxed and interactive. Participants choose from a four-course menu that accommodates vegans, vegetarians, and those with specific dietary requirements or allergies. Instructors lead each dish from preparation through to plating, with the meal shared together at the end of the session. Named instructors appear frequently in visitor accounts, reflecting the personal and attentive approach the school is known for. Hotel pickup from central Chiang Mai is included, making logistics simple for most visitors. Booking in advance through the school's website at thaifarmcooking.net is strongly recommended, as classes fill quickly, particularly during peak travel seasons. Comfortable, casual clothing suited to both kitchen work and time spent outdoors is advisable.

What a fab day! We started off with a hotel pickup, then drove to the main market, a little way North of the city centre. There, our guide, Raatta talked us through various stalls and we had some free time to explore. Raatta was never far away if we needed clarification! Then we drove (in a comfortable AC minibus) to the farm. It’s in the countryside North of Chiang Mai and is just beautiful. When on the bus, we’d made our selection of what we’d like to cook… one soup, one curry, one stir fry, one noodle dish, one desert. We also had a salad. Raatta took us through each dish - and answered all our many questions! Because of the variety of dishes on offer, we also got to learn about the other dishes too! You will be eating a lot, but they are happy to bag up leftovers for you to take home. All-in-all, a brilliant day! Highly recommended!
This cooking class is a great experience and a really fun way to get closer to local food. You cook traditional Thai dishes in a very relaxed setting, following a four-course menu with different options, so everyone can choose what they like. Everything is explained step by step and in a very simple way, so even if you’ve never cooked before, you can do it without any problem. It’s also a great place to try new flavors and dishes you might not dare to order on the street, but here you feel comfortable experimenting. Our guide, Mod, was super kind, friendly, and easygoing, which made the whole experience even better. Overall, it was a beautiful, hands-on experience and something I would definitely recommend.
We were lucky enough to have Fah as our teacher, she was so engaging and made the day so special. She took us round the market and taught us about the core ingredients of dishes, and then when we got to the farm she showed us the fresh herbs and vegetables that we were about to use in our dishes. It was so interesting to see them growing and learn about their uses. The cooking was so much fun, everything was prepped for us perfectly and spaced out so well. Thankyou for such an amazing experience Fah! :)

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
