Doi Saket Hot Spring

4.1(2,620 reviews)

Tucked into the forested countryside of Doi Saket district, this natural hot spring offers a low-key, unpretentious alternative to Chiang Mai's more polished wellness resorts. The site has a pleasantly aged, rustic character — well-kept but refreshingly unmanicured — and draws visitors in search of genuine relaxation rather than a resort experience. Geothermal waters emerge in a quiet rural setting, and the overall atmosphere is calm enough that some travellers make the trip by bicycle from central Chiang Mai. Entry to the grounds is free, with private soaking cubicles available for around 100 THB per person. Beyond the baths, a small community market offers food stalls, local crafts, and the novelty of eggs boiled directly in the hot spring water. A café and coffee shop operate nearby, and a massage service is available on-site, though visitor experiences with it have been mixed, so expectations are worth managing accordingly. Good to know: Opening hours are not widely published, so checking with local accommodation before making the trip is advisable. The site is most easily reached by private transport, motorbike, or bicycle, as public transport options are limited. Visitors should bring a swimsuit, towel, and flip-flops for the baths. The cooler months of November through February are a particularly good time to visit, when the thermal contrast is most enjoyable and the surrounding countryside is comfortable to explore.

Visitor Reviews

It's a pretty secluded and interesting spot. It's not new and you can tell it's aged, but still it's not expensive and worth a visit and a dip in one of the VIP private baths. It's only 100 THB/person (max 2 persons), so give it a try if you're in the are, as it's not worth driving there specifically to dip in the hot spring water. Still, highly recommended once you are there.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide

These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
