Chiang Mai Zoo Aquarium
Situated on Huay Kaew Road at the foot of Doi Suthep, this attraction combines a large outdoor zoo spread across hilly terrain with a standalone aquarium that tends to impress visitors more than they expect. The aquarium's standout feature is its two walk-under glass tunnels — one freshwater, one saltwater — offering an immersive view of aquatic life from below. The broader zoo grounds cover a wide range of terrestrial animals and draw a relaxed mix of local families and international travellers. The atmosphere is unhurried and family-oriented, making it a practical choice for those wanting to cover both land and marine animals in a single outing. That said, foreign visitors should be aware that separate entry fees apply for the zoo and aquarium components, and some find the aquarium's species variety limited relative to its ticket price. Animal enclosures are spread across elevated, uneven terrain, so the experience requires more physical effort than a typical flat zoo. Arriving early is strongly recommended — temperatures are cooler, animals are more active, and crowds are thinner. The grounds are too expansive to cover comfortably on foot alone, so budgeting for the on-site hop-on hop-off trams, vans, or golf cart rentals is worth planning for in advance. Comfortable walking shoes and sun protection are essential for the outdoor sections.

Visitor Reviews
If you have kids, you have to go and you will enjoy this place. It is good to go early, because there are lots of things to see. You can rent golf carts for a few euros and make your life easier getting around. Food, drinks, ice cream, souvenirs, they have it all. Parking is spacious, there are enough slots for everyone. Bathrooms right in the park garage. The aquarium was exciting to see with the underwater tunnel. There is a winter garden also with minus 10 degrees. They provide winter jackets. Prices are fair for a whole family, no wait, no pre purchase necessary. Have fun! ;)
Very nice zoo, the problem is that the zoo is located on mountains and its really bad idea to do it by foot, take the hop-on hop-off ride, it worth it 😅 And the aquarium is very good, we really like it..!
A must go place if you love nature and the aquarium. The entry fee isn't high. You can take a van to visit the whole park or self drive service is available. Take your time there.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
