Elephant sanctuary from bangkok (office)

4.8(543 reviews)

This Bangkok-based tour operator runs full-day excursions to an elephant sanctuary outside the city, offering visitors a responsible alternative to traditional elephant tourism. The focus is firmly on animal welfare, with elephants living in a natural environment where guests can observe them freely roaming, feed them, and join them for mud and river baths. Staff guide visitors throughout the day, sharing knowledge about elephant behaviour and conservation, making the experience as educational as it is hands-on. Logistics are handled smoothly from the outset, with organised city pickups that remove the stress of navigating transport independently. Visitors frequently highlight the quality of individual guides and drivers, noting their attentiveness, local knowledge, and willingness to help capture photographs along the way. Some tours also include a stop at Erawan Waterfall, adding a natural hiking element to the day. Good to know: Booking in advance through the sanctuary's website is strongly recommended to secure a place and arrange hotel pickup from Bangkok. Wear comfortable, water-resistant clothing and sturdy footwear suitable for outdoor terrain, as the day involves walking, standing, and getting wet during the bathing activities. Morning departures make the most of cooler temperatures, which benefits both visitors and the animals.

The Elephant Sanctuary Morning Day Tour from Bangkok was outstanding from start to finish. Pickup from the city was well organised and on time, so there was no stress about transport or timings. Siri, our driver, collected us directly from our hotel in Bangkok and was fantastic throughout. As a bonus, he even stopped at an amazing viewpoint on the way – I won’t spoil it, but it’s a real wow moment. This man genuinely deserves a pay rise. The drive out of Bangkok was comfortable and it was great to see the countryside as we travelled. At the sanctuary the welcome and briefing were clear and reassuring. It is obvious that the team genuinely care about the elephants and put their welfare first. Feeding the elephants and being close to them in a calm, respectful environment was an unforgettable experience. Watching them bathe and helping prepare their food was both moving and educational. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly and patient throughout, explaining behaviours, backgrounds and how rescued elephants are looked after. The whole visit felt ethical and well managed rather than like a show. There are showers on site, which is ideal after the activities, and there are lockers available for personal belongings. They are not very large, but big enough to store essentials and a change of clothes securely. The tour ran smoothly from beginning to end thanks to professional organisation, excellent staff and a brilliant driver. It was a meaningful and memorable day, and a highlight of our time in Thailand. Highly recommended

We had an amazing experience at the Elephant Sanctuary! The elephants were clearly well taken care of, and it was such a joy to feed them and join them for a mud and river bath — truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Afterwards, we visited Erawan Waterfalls, which were absolutely breathtaking. There are quite a few steps to climb, and since it was a very hot day, we only made it up to the 4th tier — but taking a refreshing swim in the waterfall made it totally worth it! Our driver, Siri, was fantastic. He shared lots of interesting information about the elephants and the waterfalls, had cold water ready for us, and made sure we had a safe and comfortable journey. He also took some amazing photos of us at the sanctuary, which we really appreciated. Highly recommend this experience!

It was truly a great and a very refreshing experience. We had so much fun. The staff there are amazing, the elephants were pretty much free and treated very well. You really get to spend time with the elephants, you get to feed them, pet, hug them, and give them a bath. It was pretty amazing, we loved it and recommend it for anyone specially families with little ones. We also give thanks to our amazing driver Siri, he was just awesome, very kind, caring and friendly, he took good care of us so THANK YOU.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide

These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
