The Source
Nestled in the jungle of Koh Phangan, The Source is a dedicated yoga and wellness retreat built around a spacious open-air shala that looks out over the treetops. The setting feels genuinely removed from the bustle of the island, with surrounding jungle and the occasional company of wild monkeys making mornings here a memorable experience. The retreat is particularly well regarded for its 200-hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training programme, led by George Anthony, whose teaching style has drawn consistent praise from students for being both knowledgeable and compassionate. Beyond teacher training, The Source also welcomes visitors for drop-in yoga classes, making it accessible to travellers who are simply passing through Koh Phangan and looking for a session in an exceptional environment. The shala itself is a standout feature, offering panoramic views of the jungle that set the tone for a calm and focused practice. The atmosphere throughout is described by visitors as peaceful and unhurried, well suited to those seeking a genuine retreat experience rather than a commercial wellness centre. Practically speaking, those interested in the teacher training programme should plan well in advance, as courses run on a set schedule and places are limited. Drop-in visitors are best advised to reach out directly before arrival to confirm class times, as opening hours are not publicly listed. The retreat is located within the Khao Ra Bungalows area, so accommodation on-site or nearby may be available for those wanting a full immersion stay.

Visitor Reviews
I just graduated from the 200hr Hatha Yoga Teacher Training with George. I would say the best thing about this retreat for me was practising in the gorgeous Shala everyday and getting the chance to disconnect with my daily routines which allowed me to see my life with more clarity. I experienced real personal growth here; I left feeling lighter, more balanced and A LOT more confident in myself. The combination of yoga, nature and community was incredible; it’s an experience I will always hold close to my heart. George is an amazing teacher, he has taught me so much and I’m so grateful. The course itself is so informative, I loved diving deeper into the philosophy. The source is such an amazing place, it feels so connected to nature being up in the jungle and has the sweetest little resident who brightened my days…Cowcat ❤️ All of the staff are so lovely and helpful and I can’t not mention the food, absolutely delicious!!!
I participated in the Yoga Teacher at the Source from 8-9/2025. I'm gonna keep this review short and simple: Pros: - George Anthony, the lead yoga teacher, is far out. Such a wise and compassionate man. Not a fake guru, but someone humble you can easily look up to. - Programme was optimal and well structured. - Food is simply 10/10 and always made me happy. - The location / premise is a beautiful and peaceful place in the middle of the jungle. - All of the employees running the place are super friendly (Jim, Oak, Wai etc.) - Special mention for the king of all cats - the Cat Cow. I will miss him. Cons: - No A/C rooms (during my stay it didn't get too hot though). - Sometimes the cleaning of the rooms was a bit sloppy. So all in all great value, great course, can highly recommend it.
If you're thinking about a yoga teacher training or even just a drop-in yoga class in Phangan, you have to check out The Source. The place is just so peaceful - the shala looks out over the jungle and the marine park, and it's far enough away from all the noise that you can really focus on your practice. I learned so much from the lead teacher George in just four weeks; he's a fantastic mentor and just a great person. He was very engaged and really tracked our progress over four weeks. I left The Source with a much clearer understanding of the practice and way more confidence than I came in with. The staff is also super nice, and you can tell the owner really takes care of them. And the food! The food here is criminally underrated.
Tips for Visiting Wellness & Spas
Learn Wat Pho First
Wat Pho in Bangkok is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage education. Their on-site massage pavilion offers excellent treatments from students and graduates at reasonable prices — and you know the technique is authentic.
Communicate Pressure Preferences
Thai massage can be intense. Say 'bao bao' for lighter pressure or 'nак nак' for harder. A good therapist will check in, but don't hesitate to speak up — suffering in silence defeats the purpose.
Book Longer Sessions
A 60-minute massage is fine, but 90 or 120 minutes allows the therapist to work thoroughly. The price difference is often only 200–400 THB for an extra hour — worth it for a deeper, more relaxing experience.
