Kampon art gallery
Tucked away near Yanui Beach in the Rawai area of Phuket, Kampon Art Gallery is a working studio and gallery run by a local artist renowned for his skill with colour, form, and portraiture. Far removed from the busy tourist centres of the island, it offers a genuinely personal encounter with Thai artistry — visitors can browse existing works or commission original paintings directly from the artist himself. What sets this gallery apart is the opportunity to engage with Mr. Kampon as both an artist and a teacher. Private art classes are available for those looking to develop their own skills, and the studio has a reputation for accommodating commission requests with care and speed — even last-minute orders before departure. Visitors consistently describe the works as emotionally striking, and the overall experience as intimate and unhurried. Good to know: as a working studio rather than a commercial gallery, opening hours are not publicly listed, so it is advisable to contact Mr. Kampon in advance before making the trip out to Rawai. Those interested in a commission should allow as much lead time as possible, though the studio has demonstrated an ability to deliver quality work under tight timelines.

Visitor Reviews
Kampon Art Gallery is a true hidden treasure in Rawai. I'm so grateful that I found this lovely place. The artist is incredibly talented, his artworks just leave you speechless. I had the chance to order two portraits - one as a birthday present for my teenage daughter and another one as a Christmas gift for my little niece who lives in Europe. Both were stunningly beautiful and just brought me to tears. If you have a chance, do not hesitate to visit this cozy art place. You'll be warmly greeted by the artist and his lovely wife and kids. They are such a nice and friendly family. For those who want to ship their painting or travel with it, they pack it very well. The portrait that I sent to Europe arrived in perfect condition. 👍 Thank you for your beautiful artworks and kind service. 🙏 See you again!
A hidden gem – far from the tourist hotspots – is the Kampon Art Gallery near Yanui Beach. Here you'll find beautiful paintings, but what's even better is that Mr. Kampon paints on commission. You bring him an image (photo, print, or something similar) that you like, and he paints it in your desired size using oil or acrylic on canvas – all to a perfect standard. After you've seen it, the finished piece is neatly and compactly packaged in a rigid PVC tube, making it easy to transport home (in your hand luggage). We've commissioned many paintings over the years (for ourselves and for friends) and can't praise this gallery highly enough. A visit to this artist is highly recommended.
My daughter has been taking private art classes with Mr. Kampon for the last few months and so far it has been an awesome experience. He is not only an outstanding artist, but a great teacher as well. She has learnt so many new things here. She has even just finished her first ever portrait that she is so proud of! I highly recommend the art classes to all who love painting and want to improve their skills. The place has a cosy, homey vibe, and the whole family is super kind and friendly. It's all worth it!
Tips for Visiting Temples & Culture
Dress Modestly
Cover shoulders and knees at all temples. Carry a light scarf or sarong — some temples lend wraps, but not all. Shoes come off before entering any building with a Buddha image.
Mind Your Feet
Never point your feet at a Buddha image or a monk — it's considered deeply disrespectful. When sitting inside a temple, tuck your feet behind you or to the side.
Ask Before Photographing
Exterior photos are almost always fine, but some interior halls prohibit photography. Look for signs, and never pose irreverently with Buddha images — it's a legal offense in Thailand.
