Pittalew Art Gallery

4.7(90 reviews)

Nestled in the Mae Hee area just outside Pai's town centre, Pittalew Art Gallery is an artist-run creative haven that goes well beyond a conventional gallery space. Founded and cared for by a veteran local artist, the property reflects a distinctly bohemian character, combining contemporary and traditional artistic influences in a setting that feels genuinely lived-in and purposeful rather than commercial. The gallery celebrates the creative spirit of the Pai community and draws both locals and travellers into its orbit. Visitors can expect a free-spirited atmosphere with rotating exhibitions, occasional events that take on the feel of a mini festival — complete with market stalls, live music, and a bar — and accommodation in spacious, character-filled bungalows that stand apart from the area's more generic offerings. It is the kind of place where something unexpected is often happening, and where the boundaries between art, community gathering, and daily life are pleasantly blurred. On a practical note, the gallery's event schedule appears to vary, and at least one visitor has noted arriving to find the space unlit and empty during evening hours. It is worth checking in advance whether an event or exhibition is taking place before making the trip, particularly if visiting after dark. As no website or official opening hours are currently listed, reaching out through local accommodation or community boards in Pai is the most reliable way to plan a visit.

This place owned and cared by an veteran artist P-art is a place you can dream of. Comfortably big bungallows (different from these bungallows you see everywhere where people made for money) are located in the jungle you get so much healing energy. In the busy season P-art holds a monthly art party where people from all over the world shows off tgeir talent and have fun and mingle with other people. This place is a magic. Should be lived than talked about.

A Pittalew event is very special as it involves all genres of the local & tourist communities.. Sort of a mini festival with stalls, live music, bar, art gallery etc.

Tips for Visiting Temples & Culture

Dress Modestly

Cover shoulders and knees at all temples. Carry a light scarf or sarong — some temples lend wraps, but not all. Shoes come off before entering any building with a Buddha image.

Mind Your Feet

Never point your feet at a Buddha image or a monk — it's considered deeply disrespectful. When sitting inside a temple, tuck your feet behind you or to the side.

Ask Before Photographing

Exterior photos are almost always fine, but some interior halls prohibit photography. Look for signs, and never pose irreverently with Buddha images — it's a legal offense in Thailand.
