Wat Phra Chedi Laem Sor
Tucked away on the quiet southern tip of Koh Samui, this Buddhist temple offers a rare combination of spiritual atmosphere and stunning coastal scenery. The centrepiece is a striking golden pagoda adorned with ornate details, set directly against the sea with panoramic views across the bay and surrounding islands. Unlike many of the island's more commercialised sites, this temple retains an authentic, unhurried character that draws visitors looking for genuine calm. Inside the temple grounds, a boat hall houses a large vessel containing a monk's statue alongside numerous small model boats, adding an interesting cultural dimension beyond the pagoda itself. The setting is genuinely peaceful — cool sea breezes, smiling monks, and the sound of the ocean make it a naturally meditative place to spend an hour or two. Friendly dogs are known to roam the grounds, adding to the relaxed, lived-in feel of the site. Open daily from 07:00 to 18:00, the temple is free to explore, though the remote location means a scooter or private transport is essentially required to get here — it sits well off the main tourist circuit. As with all Buddhist temples in Thailand, visitors should dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees out of respect. Morning visits tend to be the most tranquil, before the afternoon heat sets in.

Tips for Visiting Temples & Culture
Dress Modestly
Cover shoulders and knees at all temples. Carry a light scarf or sarong — some temples lend wraps, but not all. Shoes come off before entering any building with a Buddha image.
Mind Your Feet
Never point your feet at a Buddha image or a monk — it's considered deeply disrespectful. When sitting inside a temple, tuck your feet behind you or to the side.
Ask Before Photographing
Exterior photos are almost always fine, but some interior halls prohibit photography. Look for signs, and never pose irreverently with Buddha images — it's a legal offense in Thailand.
