Wat Khao Chedi
Perched on a hillside in the quieter Talingngam district of Koh Samui, this working Buddhist temple offers something genuinely rare on the island: solitude, spirituality, and sweeping views across the sea in both directions. Away from the busier tourist zones, it attracts pilgrims, photographers, and travellers seeking a more contemplative side of Koh Samui. A large Buddha sits at the summit, and resident monks are a visible presence, lending the site an authentic spiritual character that casual tourist stops rarely achieve. Visitors can expect a calm, unhurried atmosphere with cool breezes at elevation and unobstructed coastal panoramas. The temple grounds combine traditional Thai Buddhist architecture with natural hillside surroundings, and the elevated position rewards those who make the journey with views stretching across the island's landscape. Because the site sits off the beaten path and sees relatively light traffic, it retains a sense of peaceful seclusion throughout most of the day. A practical note worth heeding: the access road is steep and narrow, and drivers should be comfortable using low gear or handling a motorbike on an incline, particularly on the descent. Respectful clothing covering shoulders and knees is expected, as at all Thai temples. The site opens daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and an early morning visit tends to offer the most peaceful experience and the clearest light for photography.

Visitor Reviews
A truly special place away from the usual tourist crowds. From Wat Khao Chedi you get a fantastic view over the sea and the surrounding landscape – absolutely worth seeing! Since there are relatively few visitors, you can really take your time, enjoy the silence, and pause for a moment of reflection. For me, it’s one of the most beautiful spots on Koh Samui to slow down and soak in the atmosphere.
The road up is quite steep, so you need to be experienced with using low gear or riding a motorbike, especially on the way down. But the view at the top is absolutely breathtaking. Don’t forget to make a small donation to help the locals maintain the temple.🙏🏻☺️
Wow. Go and see the place. The views are breathtaking and the whole place is so peaceful. The monks who live here are very lucky to call it home

Dress Modestly
Cover shoulders and knees at all temples. Carry a light scarf or sarong — some temples lend wraps, but not all. Shoes come off before entering any building with a Buddha image.
Mind Your Feet
Never point your feet at a Buddha image or a monk — it's considered deeply disrespectful. When sitting inside a temple, tuck your feet behind you or to the side.
Ask Before Photographing
Exterior photos are almost always fine, but some interior halls prohibit photography. Look for signs, and never pose irreverently with Buddha images — it's a legal offense in Thailand.
