Bang Khun Thian Viewpoint

4.7(417 reviews)

Bang Khun Thian Viewpoint sits in Bangkok's southernmost district and holds the distinction of being the only seaside area within the capital. What sets it apart is not a polished resort experience but something more genuine: a flat bike path winding through restored mangrove forest, a muddy shoreline shaped by conservation efforts, and open coastal views that feel worlds away from the city centre just a short distance north. The mangrove restoration work here is a particular draw, with visitors noting the collaborative effort to preserve this stretch of natural coastline. The atmosphere is unhurried and local in character. Cyclists, morning walkers, and photographers tend to arrive early to make the most of the sea breeze and softer light. Bicycles are available to rent near the start of the bridge for 40 baht per day, making a leisurely ride through the mangroves one of the most popular ways to explore the area. On public holidays the site draws larger crowds, but it retains a relaxed, unpretentious feel throughout. The viewpoint is open daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Early morning visits are recommended for cooler temperatures and a quieter experience. Sun protection and comfortable walking or cycling shoes are advisable, as shade along the coastal sections can be limited. This destination works well as a half-day trip from central Bangkok for travellers seeking an authentic, nature-focused contrast to the city's busier attractions.

This is a must go place if you are cycling or walking at the Rak Thale Bangkhunthian Bridge. Bicycles can be rented at the start of the bridge at 40 Baht per bicycle for the entire day. Cycle along the Rak Thale bangkhunthian bridge and follow on to this Bang Kun Thian Viewpoint... it's like the feeling of going to the end of the path to the water! Some what like to the "Southernmost point " of the place in other countries I have been. It's really nice here. Best capturing the sunset. Leave your bicycle at the end point and walk along the sides for nice views and photos. Watch the birds at the mangroves. Recommend coming here near sunset to get some great shots of this place. There's an ice cream man selling ice cream and tried 1 there. I didn't like the flavour I bought but it was great having an ice cream at this place! The uncle kept the place clean, making sure we did not throw the wrappers elsewhere and place them into his little bin.

This gem has been hidden. A must-go. The mangrove premises was a piece of art as far as power of collaborated efforts were made to restore priceless nature along the muddy shoreline. I feel like I was biking on a green and shady heaven. I definitely will go back again to watch seabirds they said would come by in the evening.

Visited during public holiday. It was quite a handful of crowds. It was very lovely. Highly recommend. We rode a motorbike into the park. The beach is very beautiful and there is an old man selling ice cream for cheap price. The breeze is very nice and good scenery.

Tips for Visiting Temples & Culture

Dress Modestly

Cover shoulders and knees at all temples. Carry a light scarf or sarong — some temples lend wraps, but not all. Shoes come off before entering any building with a Buddha image.

Mind Your Feet

Never point your feet at a Buddha image or a monk — it's considered deeply disrespectful. When sitting inside a temple, tuck your feet behind you or to the side.

Ask Before Photographing

Exterior photos are almost always fine, but some interior halls prohibit photography. Look for signs, and never pose irreverently with Buddha images — it's a legal offense in Thailand.
