Coffee Old City
Tucked along Soi Chikun in Ayutthaya's historic old city, this casual cafe and restaurant sits just steps from Wat Maha That, making it a natural stopping point for travellers exploring the ancient ruins. Despite its prime location near one of Ayutthaya's most visited temples, prices remain genuinely budget-friendly, and the atmosphere leans local rather than tourist-facing — a combination that is increasingly rare in the area. The menu goes well beyond coffee. Visitors consistently highlight the Tom Yum Goong, garlic pepper chicken, and Thai iced coffee as standout choices, and the kitchen takes dietary requirements seriously — reviewers with food allergies have noted attentive, communicative service from staff. English is spoken, the space is air-conditioned, and phone charging points are available, making it a practical refuge during a long day of sightseeing. Good to know: Coffee Old City opens at 8:00 AM every day except Sunday, closing at 4:30 PM, which makes it well suited for breakfast before the temples get busy or a mid-afternoon break. Arriving in the morning is particularly recommended, as the kitchen is fully operational and seating is more readily available. The Facebook page linked in the listing is the best place to check for any schedule changes before visiting.

Visitor Reviews
I don’t usually write Google reviews, but this place truly deserves one. Yesterday I came here for lunch while visiting Ayutthaya. When ordering I explained that I’m allergic to seafood. From the beginning they were very careful about it and made sure my dish didn’t contain any seafood or sauces that might include it (like oyster or seafood sauce). The food was also really delicious, which made the experience even better. What really surprised me happened at the end of the meal. Without me asking, one of the staff members brought me a small note written in Thai explaining that I’m allergic to seafood, so I can show it in other restaurants to avoid any problems. It’s a small gesture, but it says a lot about the people who work here and how much they care about people. Thank you for the kindness and attention to detail. I highly recommend this place.
Their Thai coffee iced is really good, I recommend it. The waitress was really nice and really helpful. I think this is the best place to go if you arrive around 8/9am in Ayutthaya to eat a good breakfast before to start visiting. It's also really nice to take a break at noon and take some energy before to go back. With my friend we did both and we wasn't disappointed !
A wonderful spot to unwind! The atmosphere is super chill and relaxing, and the AC was at the perfect temperature. The food was delicious—the Tom Yum Goong and Thai Milk Tea are must-tries. A special shout-out to the waitress (the slightly curvier lady) who was incredibly friendly and provided excellent service. Thanks for the great experience!

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
