Rong Bia Riverside Garden
Sitting along the river in the Mae Pao area of Phaya Mengrai District, this spot combines a cafe and restaurant with expansive farmland surroundings, making it more of a scenic dining retreat than a conventional market or shopping destination. The setting is genuinely picturesque, with views stretching across fields and mountains to the river, and the open-air layout creates a calm, unhurried atmosphere that draws visitors looking to escape the pace of central Chiang Rai. The food and drink offering is the main draw here. Visitors can expect a selection of teas, coffee, and meals at accessible prices, with the scenery serving as the backdrop for a leisurely meal or afternoon break. Reviewers highlight the beautiful views and fresh air, and the venue is particularly popular for catching the sunset. Note that the food quality can be inconsistent, with some visitors finding seafood dishes less than fresh, so sticking to simpler menu items may be the safer choice. Good to know: Despite sometimes being referred to as a floating market, this is primarily a cafe and restaurant set within agricultural land rather than a traditional market. The landscape changes significantly with the seasons, and visiting outside the harvest period offers greener, more photogenic surroundings. Formal opening hours are not publicly listed, so visiting during daylight hours is recommended. Parking is readily available on site.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
