San Kamphaeng Saturday Walking Street
Held every Saturday evening from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, this walking street stretches approximately one kilometre through the San Kamphaeng district, about 13 kilometres east of central Chiang Mai. It draws a largely local crowd, giving it a community atmosphere that feels noticeably more relaxed and neighbourhood-oriented than the busier markets closer to the city centre. The scale and variety on offer make it a worthwhile detour for travellers interested in seeing how locals shop and eat. Food is a genuine highlight here, with stalls covering everything from desserts to seafood alongside a broad range of regional Thai street food. Beyond eating, visitors can browse clothing, handicrafts, ceramics, traditional textiles, and general knick-knacks sold by a mix of regular vendors and home-based artisans. Prices reflect local rather than tourist-market expectations. A few practical points worth knowing: the market only operates on Saturdays, so those with fixed itineraries should plan ahead. Arriving earlier in the session, between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM, allows for a more comfortable browse before crowds build and before some vendors begin packing down. Parking is available nearby in paid lots for around 40 baht. As with any outdoor street food setting, exercising standard judgment about food that has been sitting out is sensible, particularly in warm evening temperatures.

Visitor Reviews
Local street market. Not too busy and lovely food! Tip for foreigners - just watch what you eat; it's all safe but one wrong thing sitting outside just a bit longer than it should will make you sick. Love the prices and vibe
The street food is plentiful and amazing!! Everything from desert to seafood and more! Parking is not too big a concern. There are many paid parking lots in the area. 40+ bht.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
