community market
Tucked away in the Pratu Chai Sub-district of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, this small community market draws locals and passing travellers alike with its relaxed atmosphere and honest, affordable food. Despite its modest size, visitors consistently find a solid range of goods on offer, from freshly prepared street food and cold drinks to fruit and everyday produce. Standout mentions from regulars include soya milk, fried dough sticks, root beer, and what one scooter-riding visitor described as the most memorable mango they had eaten in their life. The market has the feel of a genuine neighbourhood gathering spot rather than a tourist destination, which is a large part of its appeal. A friendly elderly couple selling fruit are frequently praised for their generosity, often adding a little extra to purchases. The food is consistently described as cheap and satisfying, making it an easy and rewarding stop for those exploring the area beyond Ayutthaya's historic temples. Good to know: the market operates as an evening market, opening at 15:00 and closing at 19:00, seven days a week. Arriving much before 15:00 may mean many stalls are still setting up, so timing the visit accordingly ensures the best selection. Street parking is available along the road nearby, and the market is accessible by scooter or car for those already exploring the wider Ayutthaya district.

Visitor Reviews
I happened to be passing by around 2:30pm on February 12, 2024, and was hungry so I asked if I could eat there. Perhaps it's an evening market, as many shops were still setting up, but I was able to eat at this shop. Perhaps there aren't many tourists here. The staff were very kind.
While riding my scooter, I came across a small market in an unexpected place and stopped. It was closing time, so I didn't get to see much, but I did eat the most delicious mango I've ever had in my life. And I paid only 30 baht per kilogram.
Good and convenient morning market with great soya milk and local fried dough sticks.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
