Pi Leh Bay

4.8(8,327 reviews)

Pi Leh Bay, also known as Pi Leh Lagoon or Pileh Cove, is a natural inlet on the island of Koh Phi Phi Leh in Krabi Province. Enclosed by towering limestone karst mountains, the bay offers calm, wave-free waters in vivid shades of turquoise and emerald — conditions that make it a reliable swimming and snorkelling spot and a favourite backdrop for longboat photography. The sheltered geography keeps the water remarkably still, and sea temperatures typically sit around 28 degrees Celsius, making time in the water comfortable for most visitors. Pi Leh Bay is most commonly visited as part of an organised day tour departing from Phuket or Krabi, with boats typically stopping here after Maya Beach. The bay draws a steady flow of tour groups throughout the day, so visitors should expect a lively, social atmosphere rather than a secluded escape. Those who prefer simply taking in the scenery from the boat will find the surrounding cliffs equally rewarding without entering the water. The bay operates daily from 07:00 to 16:00. Visitors travelling independently should arrange boat hire in advance, as there is no direct land access. Arriving earlier in the day generally means fewer boats and clearer conditions for swimming and snorkelling. Bringing reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes, and a dry bag is advisable, as facilities on-site are minimal.

Visitor Reviews

Pi Leh Bay, also known as Pi Leh Lagoon or Pileh Cove, is a stunning natural inlet on the island of Koh Phi Phi Leh in Thailand's Krabi Province. It is famous for its breathtaking scenery, featuring towering limestone cliffs that surround a lagoon of crystal-clear, emerald-green water. The bay is often described as "paradise on earth" due to the dramatic contrast of the sheer, jungle-covered cliffs and the vibrant turquoise water. The unique lighting conditions, especially around midday, make the water appear to glow from within. The bay can get very crowded with tourists. To experience its tranquility, it is recommended to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The best time to photograph the outstanding beauty of the water, however, is typically between 11 am and 1 pm when the sun hits the water directly.

Pi Leh Bay is absolutely stunning — surrounded by dramatic limestone mountains and calm emerald water. The boat stopped here for guests to swim and snorkel. I didn’t go into the water, but simply sitting there and taking in the view felt so peaceful and refreshing. It can get busy in high season with many boats around, and it’s a bit noisy at times — but honestly, the beauty of this place still shines through. Truly worth seeing.

Pi Ley Bay is a beautiful spot nestled among mountains, boasting crystal-clear waters. The scenery is stunning, and boats will stop here so we can take a refreshing swim. There are no waves here, making swimming safe for everyone, even non-swimmers. Life jackets are available, and guides and staff are on hand to ensure a fun and memorable experience.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide

These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
